Our little Avery Caroline is four months old. It’s hard to believe that four months have flown by. (I know that I say this every month, but every day I look at her and she just looks so much bigger). Avery is just full of joy & seriously, has been such a sweet and easy baby. There’s something about this age that is so fun. I love those smiles & those little “screeching” coos. I love the way that their whole body smiles when they make eye contact with you. And their excitement over the littlest things, may it be reaching out to touch a rattle or splashing their feet so happily in their little baby bathtub. Today, I am excited to share a little more about the fourth month of life with our baby girl.
We kicked off her fourth month of life hanging out in Florida, enjoying beach life during Spring Break. She is a dream baby to travel with & our “easiest” child to travel with at the moment. She is content as long as she is fed and comforted. Avery slept wherever…may it be her the small travel crib that we brought or on the beach towel under the blanket. She may have traveled so well, that I got the courage up to buy tickets for a cross-country family trip this summer. (Let’s hope that I don’t regret it!)
At four months old, our little girl continues to be a happy & easy sleeper. She continues to go to bed around 8-9 PM, still in the arms of Mommy or Daddy while we hang downstairs for the last couple hours of the day. This is often the only time that we get to spend just a little “alone” time with our littlest girl while the older three are in their beds asleep. We carry her upstairs when we go to bed and just like last month,
Avery continues to sleep in her Rock & Play at night. She wakes up 1-2 times to feed at night, but is easy to get back to sleep after being fed. She still loves to be swaddled, but our days of swaddling are getting numbered as she is learning to roll over! During the day, she continues to nap in the swing and/or Rock and Play, but every once in awhile I like to sneak a moment in holding our sweet girl while she is asleep.
Her favorite toys, at four months old, are her very own fingers and toes. You will often find her with her fingers in her mouth or watching her wave her hands in front of her face. She also continues to love her swing and playmat, but two new toys that we have introduced to her this month are the Bumbo and exersaucer. She likes the Bumbo, but she loves the exersaucer! It took her a few days to get used to this big contraption, but once she figured it out…she can’t stop playing.
One of her big milestones this month is rolling over from back to front (as well as to front to back). Now that she rolls over, she prefers to be on her tummy while she is playing. I have a feeling that in no time she will be moving all over the floor! So I am planning to enjoy the next couple months before she is really on the go!
Avery continues to nurse exclusively about every three hours. Thankfully, she will take a bottle of pumped milk if we are out and about (or if Daddy is in charge). At her four month appointment, she weighed 11 pounds, 6 ounces which measures in the fifth percentile. She received another round of shots, followed by intense cries that lasted all of about twenty seconds. It’s hard to believe that our little girl was born with super dark hair because it’s now turned into a blonde/brown mixture that looks like a beautiful auburn color.
Our little Avery has embraced life as the youngest child & has spent much of her fourth month of life “on the go”. With two brothers in Little League, she spends about every night out and about at the baseball diamonds. If we aren’t at baseball, we are watching tennis practice, dance classes, and more. Thankfully, she is contently along for the ride. But, I have to admit that I am looking forward to the lazier days of summer with our little girl.
I think that my oldest son summed life up best with our little Avery when he said to me a couple weeks ago, “I knew she was going to be cute, Mom. But…I just didn’t know she was going to be this cute.”
Happy Four Months, Little Avery! We Love You So Much!
