Nine Months Old. It’s hard to believe that our little Avery has now been in this world just as long as I carried her during pregnancy. I have to admit that I just love this age because they are just so sweet. Avery is the happiest little bundle of joy in our family. She smiles most of the day, loves to cuddle, is curious about everything, & goes with the flow of our busy and crazy life. Today, I am excited to share a little more about our ninth month with little Avery!
First of all, I have to tell you that this nine month picture was not easy to take. All Avery wanted to do was roll over, crawl away, & pull up on the furniture. It took lots of quick snapping & the sound of some major rattle shaking to get a picture where she was looking up at me to document her nine months of life. Let’s just say that nine months and this girl is on the move all the time. Avery crawls. She pulls up on everything. She climbs the stairs. Avery cruises along the furniture. And she even stands on her own for a few seconds. Avery is one active little girl & is happy as long as she can crawl and play the day away.
I’m not sure we need toys because Avery’s favorite places to play are in the kitchen (often near her mom who seems to always be cooking meals or cleaning dishes!). Avery loves to play in the dishwasher (eek!), tries to scale the inside of the refrigerator, & clears out the Tupperware drawer. If she does play with baby toys, Avery loves to play with stacking cups, the Sit to Stand walker and/or activity table, and board books. Avery is lucky to have three big siblings that keep her super entertained. Avery often tries to get involved with whatever they are playing. This often means that Avery will be found with a handful of Littlest Pet Shop characters or a baseball card in your month or surrounded by a school of stuffed animals.
Speaking of siblings, every single one of them absolutely adores Avery. Abby begs to wake up every morning & loves to crawl into her crib to sing or read books to her. Aiden loves to carry her around the house and thankfully, Avery lets him! Andrew loves to hold her hand & rub her head when we are reading stories at bedtime. Avery’s face lights up whenever she sees them & thankfully, she loves everything they do with her (even if it’s playing beauty salon with her little fuzzy hair!).
We took another trip this month to the mountains of North Carolina to see Grandpa. Despite how easygoing Avery usually is, let’s just say that the ride there was filled with many more cries & shrills than we are used to. It was a lot easier traveling with a sleeping infant than our nine month old baby who would rather be crawling and playing than strapped in a carseat. Thankfully, once we arrived to our destination, Avery was pretty easy to travel with and spent lots of her time hanging out in the carrier or crawling around Grandpa’s house. I’m trying to soak in the last few months of traveling with a baby before we have to travel with a stubborn & strong willed toddler 🙂
This picture below says it all…our little girl loves to eat. She now refuses to eat completely pureed foods & hates to be spoon fed, so the next best solution when you have three other children to feed is to give her a small bowl filled with food and let her attempt to feed herself. It may be messy, but she loves it! Avery loves to eat solid foods & eats breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For breakfast, Avery often eats yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, and/or Cheerios. For lunch & dinner, she often eats whatever everyone else is eating just cut up in smaller pieces. Sometimes, I will supplement her meal with a baby food pouch depending on what we are eating. Some of her favorite foods include: baby puffs, cheese, noodles, and lots of fruit. Avery also continues to nurse exclusively and continues to nurse well, as long as it is pretty quiet in the room. If not, she will get distracted and refuse to eat! I nurse her five times a day (usually) which is when she wakes up, mid-morning, before nap time, late afternoon/before dinner, & at bedtime. Avery weighs in a little less than seventeen pounds, which is right around the 25th percentile for her age.
This is a big month for our girl because we have graduated out of the sleep sack. Avery now sleeps without her swaddle, sleep sack, or any other thing wrapped around her body. It was a pretty easy transition, but just another reminder that my baby girl is growing up. She is not quite sleeping through the night, often up between 3-5 AM to nurse, but I am hoping that the day will be coming soon. Avery takes two naps a day, but they are often cut short due to the activities & carpool pick ups that we have to do regarding your siblings. A little less sleep in the day often makes for a super easy bedtime for our little girl!
We are so happy to celebrate another sweet month of Avery’s life. She is such a little joy to our family & it has been so fun to watch her grow from month to month. To read more baby milestones, check out the following posts:

Nine Month Old Schedule
As the fourth child, Avery is on the go more than any other child we have had. Thankfully, she is pretty chill and is content with whatever the day brings up. Below is a rough schedule of what life is like for our nine month old.
7 AM Wake Up & Nurse: We start her day, often waking her and plopping her in the car to get the boys to school drop-off between 7:30-8:00 AM. Depending on when she wakes up, I will nurse her before we go but if it’s close to when we need to load in the car, then she has to wait & she is totally fine with that as well!
8 AM Breakfast & Playtime: She often eats baby oatmeal, YoBaby yogurt, & fruit. After breakfast, she loves to play on the floor with her big sister often close by while I pick up dishes, pump, and get the main floor cleaned up from the morning.
9 AM-10/11 AM Naptime: She goes down for a nap at nine, but I will usually wake her up at ten (so we can assure a good afternoon nap later in the day while her big sister is in school).
10 AM Wake Up & Nurse, Playtime/Errands: We either hang around the house or head out for errands or an outing. Around noon, we have lunch and drop Abby off at preschool. Avery often will eat Stage One or Two Food with an assortment of table foods during this time for lunch.
3 PM-6 PM Playtime, Nurse around 4:00-5:00 PM: The afternoons are often spent dropping off & picking up her siblings from practices. If we are home, we often spend time outdoors. She is pretty chill about going with the flow & is content wherever we end up. In addition to nursing, she will often have a snack in her highchair with some water at this time.
6 PM Dinner: We eat dinner around six and Avery often eats whatever we are eating for dinner. We spend time together as a family, often playing outside in the backyard or chilling in the living room while her older siblings do homework. Avery gets a bath every other day.
Sometime between 7 PM-8 PM: Nurse & Bedtime
