It’s hard to believe that our little girl is already one month old! It’s been wild & chaotic. And honestly, downright exhausting. But I can’t imagine it any other way. I think back to a year ago & the sadness that filled our hearts after experiencing our second miscarriage in six months. Fast forward to a year later and I couldn’t be more thankful to have our fourth baby, Avery, in our family. Our sweet Avery is the precious little girl who completes the beautiful chaos of our family.
Today, I wanted to share a little more about the first month with our sweet little girl. It’s been a whirlwind of a month. Avery has been welcomed to the world with love & joy. Of course, her biggest fans are her parents and the proud big brothers and sister. I believe that she has hardly been put down in her first month of life. Instead, she is being shuffled between arms of family members waiting to hold her next. Family & friends, both near and far, have shared a huge love for our little girl. Flowers, cards, gifts, and more have arrived to celebrate the sweet addition to our family.
Life with an one month is not always easy. The days are spent feeding & feeding some more. And so are the nights 🙂 It can be exhausting, especially when juggling the demands of a busy family and a husband who has one busy work schedule. Thankfully, we had grandma here to help for the first week to help get the kids out the door & food on the table. And we were blessed with meals upon meals to get us through this month. As soon as grandma left, I quickly learned the art of baby-wearing all over again so I am able to give baths, push kids on the swing, and help pack lunches with a newborn in tow. The kids and I are starting to find a new routine with Avery in our life. This routine is definitely a little more crazier, but one that has inspired us to take advantage of the slower days at home & the wonderful addition to our family.
Last, but not least, I did everything I could to savor this first month of Avery’s life. I promised myself that the fourth time around that I would put those to-dos aside and cherish this fleeting newborn stage. And, this month…I did just that. I spent a lot of time just cuddling & holding our precious bundle. Emails didn’t get answered quite as fast. Sports schedules and playdates were kept to a minimum. And when all three kids happened to be at school or sleeping at night, I sat on the couch with this precious bundle in my arms:)
Below, I am sharing a few more milestones & favorites from month one…

Month One: 10 Baby Favorites
Month One: Baby Schedule
I wanted to share a little bit about our schedule with an one month old. I know, I know…what schedule? The beauty of this age is that you don’t really need a schedule. Most of the day with a newborn is eating & sleeping. And I’m big on the philosophy that you can’t spoil a newborn by holding it too much so we spend a lot of the time holding the baby in our arms, unless we are sleeping. So when people ask what schedule is my newborn on…there is none. Soak in the newness because this stage goes all too fast.
Life with an one month old means little sleeping & lots of loving. Life with an one month old is exhausting. And can be overwhelming. But it is also a stage to cherish. Soak in the baby holding. Savor the late night feeding sessions. Put those to-dos aside. Let other people take care of you. Take care of yourself. This is an age that you can’t take back and goes all too fast so cherish these first days. So enjoy that little precious bundle of newness.
