Our sweet little Avery turned six months old earlier this month! It’s hard to believe that we are halfway to her first birthday. This past month has been lots of fun for our family, and especially for Avery! She is such a sweet & happy baby, content to go along with the ride which is awesome with summer upon us. This past month, she got to enjoy her first dip in the pool, put her feet in the Atlantic Ocean for the first time, & enjoyed her first fireworks show! She continues with big toothless smiles, sweet little coos, and is on the go! Today, I am excited to share a little more about our sixth month of life with our baby girl!
It has been one busy month for our little girl! Our biggest milestone continues to be that she is on the go. Last month, she mastered rolling over (and over and over) & started scooting around the floor. This month, she continues to be quite the little mover as she scoots around everywhere! She has also started to get up on all fours & shows signs of crawling on her knees very soon. There is nothing that is safe from her anymore on the floor. Her older siblings have learned to put all of their treasures and trinkets up high so their sweet baby sister doesn’t grab them and try to eat them!
Another big milestone in Avery’s six month of life is learning to sit up on her own. With three older siblings in the house, she loves to be right in the action wherever they may be. One of her favorite places to be is just sitting up with toys surrounding her while her siblings play around her. This month, her back and neck muscles have become much stronger and she is learning to sit on her own for longer periods of time!
Last month, Avery had her first taste of food & she continues to eat solid foods this month. Looking back at my other three children, they definitely were ahead of the game on this but as my fourth child, I know that she is getting enough & soon enough, we will have another big eater on our hands! We feed her one meal a day right now which includes: oatmeal, sweet potatoes, pears, carrots, squash, and other stage one foods. (And just an FYI, I made all the baby food for my oldest two children, but the fourth time around…it’s store bought all the way!).
We still haven’t mastered sleeping through the night, although I haven’t even attempted to try and wean any night nursings. Last month, we transitioned her to the crib and she is a great sleeper in her crib. She usually wakes once (sometimes twice) a night for a quick nursing session before going to sleep again. She naps 2-3 times per day & sleeps for about 10 hours a night. We went on a week of vacation this month and although traveling with a baby is never easy, this age is adaptable and thankfully she slept quite well in the pack and play and when we were on the go, even catching a few moments of sleep beachside!
Speaking of eating & sleeping, here is a rough idea of what our schedule looks like at six months old:
6 Months Old Schedule:
7 AM: Wake Up & Nurse, Playtime
9 AM-10/11 AM: Naptime
11 AM: Wake Up & Nurse, Playtime
1-2 PM: Nurse & Naptime
4 PM: Wake Up & Nurse, Playtime
(We are often out and about during the late afternoon hours, so she will often nap sometime while we are out either in the stroller or car seat.)
7 PM: Dinner of Oatmeal and/or Stage One Food, Bath (every other day)
8 PM: Nurse & Bedtime
Our baby girl continues to be a petite little thing! At her six month checkup, she weighed in at fourteen pounds and 25 1/4 inches. She is small & petite, but continues to grow at a healthy rate. She wears 3-6 months clothes and is transitioning into a size two diaper. If there’s one thing that is quite amazing, it is her hair. She was born with a full head of dark brown hair, but she is now becoming quite the little blonde haired baby. She didn’t really lose her hair, it just has lightened up in the sun and is growing in blonde now (which is what happened with all her siblings too).
We are continually blessed with our sweet baby girl in our lives. She is the cutest little addition to our family & her siblings could not love her more. This is the biggest age gap that we have between our children (almost four years between Abby & her while the rest of them have about a two year age gap between each of them). Before I had her, I wondered if this would feel too big or would it be hard to manage with all of the kids. I couldn’t be more thankful that this is what life had planned for us. Her older siblings dote on her, love on her, & are truly great helpers (most of the time!). They are also old enough that they can do things independently, which allows me to truly enjoy some precious and rare one on one time with our sweet little girl.
We couldn’t be more blessed to have our precious little girl in our lives for six months already!
Happy Six Months, Little Avery. We love you!
