Alex’s New Room: Painting With Disney Glidden Paints

April 25, 2013

I spent hours setting up Maggie’s nursery before she arrived. Everything matched, there was a theme & handmade items. I spent a quite a few months feeling a little guilt that Alex moved from our room into an undecorated nursery. Thanks to her Grammy, she had pretty curtains, but that was about it. It took 20 months, but her room is ready & I couldn’t be more excited about how it came out. I’m so grateful to be a part of the Disney Paint Moms, thanks to Momtrends. I think the best part about waiting until she was 20 months to decorate her “nursery”, was how excited she was to see it. It’s certainly a bright room now & Alex was smiling ear to ear when she walked in. She loves to point to the different color squares & to the walls & have me tell her what color they are.

I love the chalkboard squares. I always wanted to add her name over the crib & this was such an easy way to do it. Then for the other square, I added her favorite song. It’s fun that I can update it as her “favorites” change. It’s also great that I can make the chalk squares personal for Alex & then make them personal for next little resident of the nursery (if one comes along).

For Alex’s room, we used Disney Glidden Paints. We used their LOL Green for the walls. For the chalk board squares, we used the Great Slate tintable chalkboard paint. We had it tinted So Goofy (orange) & On Tour Turquoise (blue). Before choosing the colors & painting, I watched “how to” videos and used the virtual room painter to preview different finishes and paint colors on DisneyPaint.com. The paint was very easy to apply. It dried quickly & had barely any odor. In fact after about 2 hours with the window open, the smell was gone. To make the squares: We had a box in the basement from our water table. It was the exact size we wanted, so we held it up to the wall & outlined it with painting tape. Then we just painted inside the taped square.

For the rest of the room, we used some fun accents we already had: the awesome curtains the girl’s Mimi made when Maggie was born & our playroom rug. Alex was also lucky to receive a Toy Story comforter thanks to Disney & Walmart. She’s a little small to sleep with it right now, but she loves seeing in the crib to jump on (jumping in the crib is one of her favorite activities!).

It’s never easy to take pictures inside a small room, so here is a video tour of Alex’s new room!

We’re excited to share the new space with our friends at our big Disney Paint Pajama Party. Stay tuned for some fun party activities, snacks & pictures.
