Bubble Wrap Painting for Valentine’s Day

January 26, 2021

We tried bubble wrap painting last week. This was probably the most fun my boys have had making heart crafts. I LOVE Valentine’s crafts but I think Tommy and Miles were getting sick of me bringing out pink paper every day. They always ask to stomp on bubble wrap so when I said they could have a sheet and paint with it, they were thrilled.

It’s easier and less mess than I was expecting. You can really use any size bubble wrap. We tried both the traditional “small bubbles” and the green “large bubbles” that come sometimes. Both looked cool and were easy to paint with.

I was trying to figure out a way to not have them make a disaster and thought of making something that would be like a stamp. So I took an old washcloth and wrapped the bubble wrap around it. I secured it with a rubber band.

Then, they could hold the area above the rubber band and paint the ball of bubble wrap that formed around the wash cloth. Once painted it, they could stamp with the bubble wrap.

This doesn’t have to be a Valentine’s Day craft! You could really paint anything and any colors. To make it a heart craft, I cut out large hearts from white paper. Then we used red and pink paint  for our bubble wrap painting.

Bubble Wrap Painted Hearts

Supplies:
  1. Pink and/or red paint
  2. Bubble wrap
  3. White paper
  4. Old wash cloth, dish towel, anything that can be balled up about the size of a baseball
  5. Rubber band
  6. Paint brush
  7. Scissors

Directions: Cut large hearts out of the white paper. Wrap a sheet of bubble wrap around the washcloth and secure it with the rubber band. Have the child hold the “stamp” you’ve created by the piece above the rubber band. Paint the bottom of the bubble wrap “stamp” and press it down on the paper heart. Repeat until you cover the heart in “dots”.
