Chocolate Chip Mini Muffins Your Kids Will Love

January 13, 2020

My kids would eat a bag of Entenmann’s chocolate chip mini muffins every day if I let them. Actually, they’d probably each eat two bags if I let them, which they couldn’t even do because the box doesn’t come with enough bags for each kids to get two (I’ve broken up fights over this fact).

For a while now, I have tried to make my own chocolate chip mini muffins to replace my kids Entenmann’s habit. I have zero baking skills so my kids were less than impressed. I mean they’d usually eat them (there was always chocolate in them after all) but still begged for “the real ones”.

I’m pretty headstrong and once I set out to replace the Entenman’s in our pantry, I wasn’t giving up. I finally did it. I made chocolate chip mini muffins that look and taste like those crazy little muffin bags my kids go wild about. Actually… my biggest cooking critic Maggie said “these are even BETTER”.

Here’s the best part: there are very few ingredients, you can go organic if you want and you will save SO much money making these. So, after many months (ok, years) of attempts and changing recipes, here you have my copy cat Entenmann’s chocolate chip mini muffins:

Chocolate Chip Mini Muffins

Ingredients:

  1. mini muffin tray (this isn’t an ingredient, but something you definitely need)
  2. 1/2 cup white sugar
  3. 1/2 cup brown sugar
  4. 2 cups flour
  5. 1 tablespoon baking powder
  6. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  7. 1 egg
  8. 1.5 cups milk (I use 1% or 2%, when I used whole milk they weren’t as good)
  9. 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  10. 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  11. 1 cup mini chocolate chips

Directions: Recipe makes 48 chocolate chip mini muffins

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray the mini muffin tin with cooking spray. Mix all of the dry ingredients in one bowl: flour, white sugar, brown sugar, baking powder & salt. In another bowl, beat the egg and then add in the milk, vegetable oil & vanilla extract. Mix together the bowls of wet & dry ingredients.

Once mixed, fold in the mini chocolate chips. Fill each muffin cups about 3/4 full with the batter. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the muffin tin and let cool. Last… watch as your kids are impressed you just made a “from scratch” version of their favorite muffins!

Thank you for this recipe… I literally have the same exact problem! Glad this Entemanns addiction isn’t limited to my kids! So far they love them and hoping this will be a new trend!

Finally made these because my girls love the popular brand. I however do not like buying them. These came out so cute and pretty and definitely kid approved!! Thank you for the recipe.

I’ve been looking for something like this as my grandchildren devour the Entennmans by the bagsful. They are super expensive and only 5 bags per box. Can’t wait to try this. Thanks.

Is 1.5 cups of milk really a correct measurement for this recipe? My batter ended up super runny, not at all like a normal muffin mix. And after I filled 48 mini muffins I still had half the batter left.

Is the 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract correct? It seems like a lot.

So good! Really easy, and I feel good not throwing away all the packaging from the small packs of Brand Name muffins. The kids both love them, I love freezing some and sending them into school. They’re thawed by snack time. Thank you for the recipe!

Made these last night. Followed the recipe exactly. The batter was very runny and the chocolate chips sank to the bottom. It is one and a half cups of milk right?

I have to make these muffins like every two weeks! My kids love them and they are a guilty pleasure to me too 😂! I definitely recommend these to you if you have hungry kids like me.

This recipe is EXACTLY what I was looking for!! They are so good. My kids love Entenmann’s but don’t like any other packaged muffins. I have not been able to get them during “Stay At Home” — all stores in my area sold out. I may never pay $5 for a box again when I can make a whole batch for that cost.

How do you store your muffins? Would freezing them be a good option?
