From holiday cards to holiday family gatherings, there are a lot of special photos being taken throughout the season. These are photos we’ll cherish for years to come. These little people we dress up and tell “say cheese” will be much bigger next year. One of my favorite things to look back at is the box I have of all of the holiday cards my mom sent through the years my brothers and I were growing up. My mom is a creative photographer and always sent out great holiday cards. I love looking at each one; so many of which I remember the day – freezing in the snow, being bribed with Halloween candy or complaining about the matching outfits as we got older. This year when our holiday cards arrived, I took out last year’s card to show the girls how much bigger they have gotten- especially their baby brother who was just a few weeks old when we tool last year’s photo and now he’s running around! Then I took out the cards of me and my brothers. The girls got such a kick out of seeing them.
With holiday card photos to take and plenty of holiday events with photo opps, it’s fun to get some festive clothes for the kids. I don’t think they have to be in perfectly matching clothes for great photos, but some what coordinating looks adorable. My favorite place to shop for holiday clothes and especially for siblings is Mini Boden. Their clothes are fun, youthful and even though they look really nice (for photos and parties) the kids are still really comfortable in them and want to wear them.
The kids wanting to wear their holiday clothes makes getting them to smile for all the photos a lot easier!
Last year we did our holiday cards in cute outwear from Mini Boden and I loved the photos. I decided to find them some festive coats again this season.
I’ve found that the more kids you have, the harder it is to get the perfect holiday photo. Sometimes it’s the more candid outtakes that make the most memorable photos. For holiday cards, you could even do a fun photo on the front where not everyone is looking, with individual photos of the kids on the back. It’s a lot easier getting a photo of 1 kid than 3 at a time!
However you choose to do your holiday photos and cards, they will be beautiful family memories you’ll enjoy for years to come. Happy holidays and happy family photo taking!
