Disney Story Central: A Fun Way to Read This Summer

June 11, 2015

The kids are out of school and we’ve kicked off summer reading in our house. We have a fun program at our library that has the girls excited to read and earn “carnival tickets” for a big end of summer library carnival. Both of the girls learned so much in school this year and both are very into letters, spelling words and trying to read each other books. Neither of them can actually read yet, but it’s fun to listen to them “read” each other books and tell stories.

I’ve noticed that with anything from eating healthy snacks to brushing their teeth, if I somehow incorporate some of their favorite characters, they are much more likely to go along with it. The same is true with getting excited about learning. Whenever we go to the library, they race to the Disney section and beg to take home as many of those books as possible. So I knew a Disney app dedicated to stories and reading would be a great way to encourage reading in our house this summer. Disney Story Central is great and packed with great books to read with your children. It’s designed to encourage kids to develop a lifetime love of reading. Plus, with a lot of time on-the-go this summer, having some of our favorite books stored on my phone and iPad is very helpful.

Disney Story Central has a “Browse By Character” carousel that lets families easily find books starring their favorite character: Disney Princess, Disney Classics, Frozen, Doc McStuffins, Cars, and more. Alex loves everything Disney Princess and enjoys clicking on a princess and then seeing all of the books that have that princess in them.

Maggie’s favorite books are about animals and she loves the Buddies series. What’s neat for her, starting to learn to read, is she can select Buddies books that are a storybook, but also work on some of the Readers level too. She’s hoping to be able to read some of them by end of summer!

We view the books on my phone, iPad and computer. The app is free! Then, you can get a monthly subscription for unlimited books or buy them 1 at a time. Disney Story Central is helping to encourage reading this summer. You can even participate in Disney Story Central’s ‘Mid-Summer Light Reads’ Campaign – promoting weekly Disney reading themes — for a chance to unlock free books and enter the sweepstakes! Launching on June 11, the campaign will run through August 13.

Happy reading everyone!
