The Chirping Moms

Home Updates Should Always Include First Alert

May 27, 2021

Thank you First Alert for sponsoring this post. Don’t wait to replace!

We are currently preparing to do some pretty major home renovations. Stage one have been cleaning out the house. We’ll have to have 2 floors completely empty. In our plans, First Alert has come up a few times. For one, it’s on our list of things to make sure we get new fire alarms for the 2 floor being renovated. Another is that in cleaning out the house and all the “old” things. I realized it was time to make sure our fire alarms in the part of the home not being renovated are up to date.

All of the kids will be sleeping in one room most of the summer (I know… total insanity). I wanted to make sure that we put a new fire alarm right outside that room. Whether it’s spring cleaning time, a purge before home renovations, or just a date on the calendar every six months, it’s so important to make sure fire alarms are working and up to date. Every six months you should replace the batteries and regularly test them. In addition to making sure they work, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should be replaced at least every 10 years.

I feel a lot better after installing a brand new First Alert 10-Year Sealed Battery Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm. We’ll be buying a bunch more for when our renovation is done. We will be changing the layout completely on our first floor which means our smoke alarms will be in totally new places.

Since we will be buying new alarms, we’ll upgrade them all to First Alert 10-Year Sealed Battery Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm. These alarms provide 2-in-1 protection against both smoke and carbon monoxide. The 10 year sealed battery means no need to replace the battery for the 10 years.

In our renovation, we will be changing the layout of our first floor and rearranging where everyone sleeps on the 2nd and 3rd floors. In addition to adding new alarms, it will be a good time to gather our family to discuss fire safety.

I recently read that you should always: plan AND practice your emergency escape route. Your plan should have two ways out of each room and a meeting spot a safe distance from your home, where everyone in your family knows where to meet.

The kids were eager to help Dad install the new First Alert alarm outside their “summer bunk room”. They were not as eager to help mom clean out and pack the kitchen!
