Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore: The Perfect Family Getaway

June 27, 2014

This year, we took a special family getaway for Father’s Day weekend. We wanted to travel somewhere we had never been with the kids before our hectic summer began. We decided on Baltimore, since it’s only about 3 hours from our house and seemed like a place with quite a few things the whole family would enjoy. Our girls love sea animals and have never been to an aquarium, so we thought the National Aquarium would be a great place to show them. For Father’s Day we planned a special trip to Camden Yards for our “baseball fan Dad.” We enjoyed all the activities we planned in Baltimore (you can read all about what we did in our 10 Reasons To Visit Baltimore With Kids post), but what really helped make our trip the perfect family getaway, was our hotel: Four Seasons Baltimore.

The Four Seasons Baltimore is beautiful, relaxing and very accommodating to families. We felt welcomed by everyone, and they did everything they could to make a family with two small children feel at home. While on the hotel property, we felt like we had escaped much farther than 3 hours from home, and felt more like we were at a resort than a city hotel. We will certainly head back to this wonderful hotel. Here are just a few reasons why we had such a great stay:

5 Reasons Why Four Season Baltimore Makes for the Perfect Family Getaway

(PJS from Skylar Luna)

1. The Rooms

The girls were eager to visit the aquarium, so when they were invited to pick out a stuffed sea animal of their choice at check-in, the trip was off to a great start! Maggie and Alex browsed a wagon full of sea life while I took care of getting our room keys. Once we arrived in the room, the girls were excited to find kid-sized robes, slippers and Four Seasons t-shirts with crabs on them! I was excited to see a spacious, impeccably clean room with an amazing view. Our whole family enjoyed the view throughout the entire stay. We could see all around Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. We pointed out all of the places we were going to visit and loved watching the boats cruise around in the water.

2. The Pool

The gorgeous pool deck certainly sets Four Seasons Baltimore apart from any other hotel in Baltimore. Its resort-like feel while swimming alongside Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, makes it truly memorable. There are two pool decks. The upper deck features private cabanas that you can rent. Having a cabana gave us a great place to set up all the  “gear” that comes along with taking two little kids for the day. The cabana was stocked with water, fruit and had a TV as well. The cabana is also a great place to get the kids to nap midday without having to leave the pool.

On the upper deck, near the cabanas, there is a shallow reflection pool, perfect for kids to splash around and play. Maggie and Alex loved playing here, and we liked that we could sit back, relax and watch them play and laugh (the reflection pool is only a couple inches deep).

On the lower deck, there is a large pool and area to relax around it. The whole family enjoyed swimming together in this pool.

The hotel’s “Splash Terrace” or pool area has a great place to eat: The Splash Pool Bar and Grill. We tried both breakfast and lunch here and both were delicious. At lunch, the kids got a kick out of ordering their meal off a pool kick board!

If the kids are looking for an afternoon treat to cool them down, the pool area also has a fun Snowball Machine with cherry, strawberry, lime, lemon, and grape icy treats.

3. The Spa

One afternoon, while Tom and the girls swam in the pool, I was able to head over to the spa for a relaxing pre-natal massage. The spa was wonderful, and it’s not often that I get to feel pampered and totally relaxed while traveling with two little kids! The Four Seasons Spa is located right next to the pool, so it makes for an easy escape mid-day or in the morning before heading out to grab a lounge chair.

4. Wit & Wisdom

We enjoyed Father’s Day brunch at the hotel’s restaurant, Wit & Wisdom. Both the food and the experience made it the best brunch we’ve had in a long time! The kids were greeted with crab coloring sheets and crayons. They were delighted to see that their milk arrived in a silly pirate kids’ cup they could take home. The kids meals were also a hit: Maggie enjoyed kid-sized pancakes and Alex loved her plate of bacon and eggs. The kids were entertained and well fed, which gave Tom and me a chance to enjoy the delicious brunch buffet. From Maryland Crab sandwiches to a parfait bar, Wit & Wisdom offered a tasty sampling of items.

5. The Location

Once we parked our car at the hotel, we didn’t move it once until check out. There was no need to. Everything is easily accessible from Four Seasons Baltimore. In addition to being a beautiful location, the hotel is also in a convenient location, in the heart of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. We could walk to many attractions and for the rest, we took the water taxi located right out side the hotel.

The Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore truly made our family getaway a memorable one. It’s a great place for families, a couple’s getaway or event. The staff works very hard to make sure each and every guest has a wonderful experience, just like we did. I’d highly recommend staying there if you are heading to Baltimore.
