Friday Favorites: A Tradition Of Corolle Dolls

May 23, 2014

When I was a little girl, I loved playing with dolls. I could set them all up and play with them for hours. My cousin loved dolls as much as I did, and some of my happiest memories of childhood play are those playing dolls with her in our outdoor playhouse. When I was in 2nd grade, homework and school work became a challenge for the first time. I worked hard with my mom to get my work done and it was time for my first report card. I got straight A’s. That night, when I got home from ballet class, my parents told me to go up to my room for a surprise. On my bed was the most wonderful doll I had ever seen. It was a large Corolle doll in a beautiful dress. I had a lot of dolls, but this was always my favorite doll. As silly as this may sound, it was my first understanding of the importance of school work and good grades. To me, this doll was a better reward than any birthday or Christmas gift I had received. I remember thinking how important it must be to do well in school. I continued to take school very seriously for the next 15 years.

My parents saved the doll, long after I had stopped playing with dolls. Years later (many, many years), when I was at their house with Maggie, they took out the doll for her to play with. Despite a few “not so great haircuts” I gave her, she was still a beautiful doll. She also still smelled great, like all Corolle dolls do.

When it was time to get Maggie a doll, and then one for Alex, I chose a Corolle doll. I knew if my doll had lasted 20+ years, they were good quality. Also, when I smelled my girls sweet baby dolls, I was immediately reminded of my own childhood, and days playing dolls.

Maggie recently got one of the Mademoiselle dolls from Corolle. She has a few baby dolls, but wanted one with “hair like her”. She’s having a lot of fun brushing her doll’s hair and changing her outfits. Maggie loves her new doll, and watching her play with it, remind me of the joys of childhood and imagination.

We were not compensated for this post. We did receive items for review from Corolle. As always, all opinions are my own.
