The Chirping Moms

Great Ideas for Valentine’s Day Outfits

January 18, 2014

It’s Valentine’s Week at The Chirping Moms! To keep up with all the Valentine posts this week, browse around or visit our “Seasonal” tab up top. Be sure to enter the giant Valentine’s Giveaway here.

I’m a big fan of adorable clothes on children, but with three children I am learning how to be a little “more creative” when holiday seasons arrive on making my kids love cute and festive on a limited budget!

First, it’s always fun to have at least one fun new “Valentine” outfit and I found some adorable finds in one of my favorite Etsy shops, From the Heart Creations:

Next I am going to share a little secret with you on how to create adorable Valentine clothes for your child for a really small price.  Buy some fabric appliqués and add to clothes you already own or something that you find on sale!  Once Upon A Design makes great iron-on appliqués for amazing prizes (most are five dollars or less).  Here are two ideas that I came up with on how to create Abby some festive attire using some fun appliqués from Once Upon A Design:

Outfit #1 (Applique Letter A with Bow):
Add the letter A to a hand-me-down onesie from big brothers!  Pair with some fun heart pants and adorable Valentine headband.

Outfit #2 (Applique Mini Hearts):
I found this dress at Gap in the fall for less than ten dollars on clearance.  Add the appliqué heart to give it some unique style and pair with a fun festive headband.

Both of these items can be worn not just for Valentine’s Day but all year long!  Make sure to head to Once Upon A Design to see all the fun appliqués available and just for our readers, you will receive a free 3″ heart, 3″ mustache, or 3″ lips appliqué (your choice) if you purchase an appliqué from the shop and mention that The Chirping Moms sent you!

To have fun with the Valentine season, dig in the drawers and look for pinks, reds, and purples to dress your little ones!

Gather the kids for a picture and trust me, don’t go for the perfect shot.  I have finally discovered that there is no such thing.  So have fun, be silly, and love those wild faces to pieces!

At our house, we have enough pink to celebrate Valentine’s Day for the next 30 days. Which is good because we already have a few Valentine parties, play dates & school functions on the calendar. Around the holidays, I think it’s fun to get a festive shirt or leggings/tights. Then you can mix & match with items you already have for all of the fun holiday events you attend.

I also always order iron ons from Once Upon A Design. I usually iron them onto a white shirt that has a stain, to cover up the stain & add some new life to the shirt! This year, I couldn’t pass up ironing the appliques on these cute teeshirt dresses from Target! These iron ons were only $3.75 & helped create the perfect Valentine’s Day dress. If you order any appliques from the shop, mention The Chirping Moms for a free bonus applique.

Accessories are fun to get for Valentine’s Day. You can add a Valentine bow or headband to any red or pink dress & you have a festive outfit ready to go. My girls are all set for weeks of tutus, hearts & lots of pink!
