The Chirping Moms

Molasses Bacon Ribs

July 17, 2012

One of the best parts about summer is…GRILLING time!!!!  I LOVE it because not only does it produce delicious food, but that means less time spent in the kitchen for me.  And tell me one husband who doesn’t love to work that fire in grill.  So we eat a lot of grilled food around here this time of year.  I tried something new this weekend—something that kind of intimates me…RIBS.  And boy, were they DELICIOUS!  You have to try your hand at grilling some ribs because it was SO tasty and also SO much easier than I thought!
Molasses Bacon Ribs : The Chirping Moms

I combined a couple of different recipes to create this yummy rack of ribs—let’s call them Molasses Bacon Ribs, doesn’t that just sound amazing?!?!  And now for the recipe…

MOLASSES BACON RIBS
  • First I modified this recipe from the Food Network for a dry rub:
  • 1/2 tablespoon cumin
  • 1/2 tablespoon  paprika
  • 1/2 tablespoon  granulated garlic
  • 1/2 tablespoon  granulated onion
  • 1/2 tablespoon  chili powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon  brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Mix all of these ingredients and rub them on your ribs.  Cover and place the ribs in the refrigerator and let them sit for several hours.  Preheat oven for 225 degrees and slow cook for 2-3 hours.
  • For the BBQ Sauce, mix together the following and set aside in refrigerator until you place the ribs on the grill (I created this from the top of my head as I really wanted to try the new spice mix I bought!):
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1-2 tablespoons McCormick Molasses Bacon Spice Mix
  • 1 tablespoon of mustard
  • After cooking the ribs in the oven for 2-3 hours, then place the ribs on the grill.  If you have a gas grill, place them on the top rack at medium/medium-low heat until tender.  If you have a charcoal grill, place them on the grill on indirect heat and watch for flames.  (We have a charcoal grill because we love the taste, but it makes it hard to gauge temperature some time!)  Baste barbecue sauce on throughout the grilling process.  And soon, you will have DELICIOUS Molasses Bacon Ribs:)
