Simple Spring & Summer Fashion for Moms

May 6, 2015

Last spring and summer I was in all maternity clothes. So this year I was looking forward to updating my wardrobe. I love the bright colors and patterns this season, but wanted to make sure I still stuck with some simple solid staples too. I don’t ever go shopping. Shopping, and better yet a dressing room with 3 kids is just not my idea of a fun afternoon. I’ve stuck to finding sites with free shipping and free returns. Then I can try things on in the comfort of my house and send back what I don’t like. If you haven’t tried Shoprunner yet, you have to check it out. They have a list of sites that offer free 2 day shipping and returns. I was aiming for:

– Shoes: a comfortable pair of shoes to wear everyday, new pair of sandals & sneakers

– 4 Shorts

– A few shirts and tees

– 1 dress

– 1 skirt/top combo

So after browsing the web and shopping around, here are a few of my favorites. Hopefully it helps you with some simple spring and summer fashion ideas!

Ok I have to start with the Banana Republic Chambray Shorts. After a year of elastic waist maternity pants and shorts, it’s hard to go back to the “real thing”. These are elastic waist, match everything and are so comfy. They are like a more fashionable version of pajama jeans!

This top is from Anthropologie. I don’t love the prices of their shirts, but any time I get an Anthropologie shirt, it ends up as my favorite, go-to item in my closet. This shirt is comfortable, and I love that the stripes continue onto the back.

Bracelets: Rocksbox (see bottom for details on Rocksbox).

Most of my time is spent walking to and from preschool, pushing a stroller and outside in the yard. While there are so many great tops out there this season, I had to stick with those I knew I’d wear everyday. These two from J. Crew Factory are my favorite. They’ve been having some crazy sales this season. I got the long sleeve top for only $20. The shorts are my new favorite/ most comfortable jean shorts I’ve ever owned (Loft). I wasn’t sure what shoes I should be wearing with jean shorts (besides my usual flip flops). I turned to my cousin the fashion designer for this one – she said to go with some canvas Keds this season.

My new dress for spring/summer is Sail to Sable. It was a tough choice, because they have so many awesome dresses, but I ended up with the Meet You at the Marina Peacoat Navy Scallop dress. I like their dresses because you can dress them up or wear them everyday.

For the “skirt & shirt” outfit I was looking for, I also went with something from J. Crew Factory. The Flutter Sleeve Top and Linen-Cotton Mini Skirt both come in a ton of great colors.

Shoes are Tieks: our favorite go-to shoes for every season. I’ve never owned more comfortable shoes than Tieks. This spring, I chose an orange pair. There are so many brightly colored Tieks this season.

Here are a few super comfy finds for spring & summer:

Last but not least, here’s my favorite new outfit this season! It’s another J. Crew Factory shirt, white scallop shorts from Loft and new, yellow Jack Rogers. Two tips for shopping Jack Rogers: you can often find some steals on 6pm.com  and follow Jack Rogers on social media, because I got this year’s yellow pair at a mega discount after seeing them post a fast “flash sale” on Facebook. They offered 2 colors at almost half off that day.

All of the accessories pictured are from Rocksbox. I don’t like spending a lot on accessories. I have my nice, “go-to” jewelry, but for fun new pieces to add to outfits, I started using Rocksbox. It’s basically loner jewelry (with the option to buy at a discount). You create a profile and select the types of items you want to receive. You can send the boxes back and forth as many times as you want throughout the month. It’s a lot of fun, and so easy. If you want to try it out, our readers get a free month with code thechirpingmomsxoxo.

I’m glad the cold winter months are behind us and it’s time to break out all of these shorts and shirts. I was excited to shop after being pregnant last spring and summer. As excited as I was, I wanted to still keep things simple. Leave some of your favorite spring and summer finds in the comments. Happy shopping!
