Friday Favorites: 5 Favorite Summer Reading Books 2019

August 10, 2019

By: Courtney Byrne

We have just under a month left of summer and we are in no rush for it to end. We’ve read some really great books this summer and still have more on our list to tackle. Today I wanted to share 5 favorites that I would HIGHLY recommend. If you need a good book to finish out the summer or even a great birthday gift for a friend, these 5 books will be fast favorites. Here’s our 5 favorite summer reading books so far for 2019:

Evvie Drake Starts Over

Evvie Drake Starts Over: Yes.. I read an adult book!!! I’ve been trying to read more this year and this summer I finally got into a groove of finding some time to read my own books. I saw Evvie Drake Starts Over recommended by a few people on Instagram and ordered it before we went away last week. It’s just one of those books that makes you smile and you don’t want it to end. It’s a great beach read.

How to Eat Fried Worms

How to Eat Fried Worms: This was one of my favorite books as a kid. My girls (7 & 9) read a lot of their own but we like to have 1 book going at a time that the 3 of us read together aloud at night. This one was a HIT with both of them. It’s really funny and enjoyable!

Tuck Everlasting

Tuck Everlasting: For our next “read aloud together” we changed gears completely from How to Eat Fried Worms and read a much more serious, much more “makes you think” book. Another classic story for middle grades and brings up great questions and keeps everyone engaged.

It Came in the Mail

This is a new picture book in our house and all 4 got a kick out of it (3, 4, 7, 9). It Came in the Mail would make a great gift (it’s a newer title) and would be a really fun one to hold onto if you have to be a guest reader in your child’s class this year.

Pirate Jack Get Dressed

Pirate Jack Gets Dressed: I spotted this bright, colorful book while in Pottery Barn Kids. My boys have a pal named Jack that loves pirates so when I saw it I picked it up for his birthday. When I read it at home I knew we needed a copy too. It helps teach colors in a neat way. Really fun book!

Pin this book list for later!
