The Chirping Moms

T-Mobile’s #GivingTWOgether Phone Drive

December 11, 2017

Raise your hand if you have an old phone in your house somewhere.  Raise your hand if you have an old tablet in your house somewhere too.  Yep, I am totally guilty of this and surprisingly, according to recent EPA estimates, more than 135 million cell phones are trashed each year. Well, we wanted to share an easy way that you can recycle these old phones and tablets & help others in need at the same time.  These old devices that are just sitting around the house can be used to change lives!  Please tell me I’m not the only one with random phone cords & electronic parts thrown in a basket…

From December 1st to 31st, take your old phone or tablet into a local T-Mobile store to be recycled.  (FYI: You don’t have to be a current T-Mobile customer to participate.)  All tablets and phones are eligible for the program.  The brand and age of phone doesn’t matter. Also, there is no limit on how many devices you can take in to be recycled.  As part of the #GivingTwogether Phone Drive, T-Mobile will DOUBLE your impact by matching the recycled value of your devices and donating it to Feeding America and Team Rubicon.  Even old and broken devices are worth roughly $30 on average, and you can see an estimated value of how much your device in good working condition will be recycled for at https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-trade-in.html.  Once handed in, T-Mobile’s donation will match the recycle value of your old device.

On top of that, T-Mobile is pledging a minimum matching donation of $1,000,000 to be split evenly between the two charities.  That’s 5,000,000 meals for hungry families and enough to deploy 5,000 veterans to serve disaster-impacted communities!  Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States with a network of 200 food banks and 60,000 partner food pantries and meal programs that collectively provide food to more than 46 million people across the country.  Team Rubicon offers veterans a chance to continue their service by uniting their skills and experience with first responders, medical professionals and technology solutions to rapidly deploy emergency response teams to areas affected by natural disasters.

The#GivingTWOgether Phone Drive is another great initiative from T-Mobile after their #GivingTuesday campaign where customers, employees and fans were in charge of giving away up to $1 million to charity. Earlier this year, T-Mobile raised more than $2.78 million for hurricane recovery with the #HR4HR (Home Runs for Hurricane Recovery) initiative.  Rather than letting electronics sit in a drawer, here is a chance to make twice the difference.  Head to the local T–Mobile store with all old phones & tablets for a chance to be a part of the #GivingTWOgether campaign. For more information on the T–Mobile #GivingTWOgether Phone Drive, visit https://www.t–mobile.com/ways-to-give.  To learn more about T-Mobile, make sure to visit them on Facebook and Twitter.
