The Chirping Moms

0-3 Month: Baby Must-Haves

August 16, 2013

I’m having one of those weeks where I have been counting down to Friday since my husband headed back to work at 7 am on Monday.  (Does anyone else ever have those weeks?)  I love my kids but this week has challenged me as a mom as I am juggling the needs and demands of three little children with little sleep and patience.  Now, I’m probably going to shed some tears this weekend (especially with my lack of sleep) as my sweet little Abby is turning five months old this weekend.  Five.  What…Where has the time gone?  So before she grows into a toddler, I wanted to take some time to share my 0-3 month baby favorites with you.  And these are narrowed down to the BEST of the best because in Abby’s first three months of life, we were selling a house, packing a house, and living at Grandma’s.  So I had to be smart and streamlined with what items I wanted.  And this is our third baby, so these are tried and tested through the years!
Baby Must-Have Items: 0-3 Months
  • BABYBJORN Baby Carrier One:  I have tried several carriers and this is still my favorite.  I love how newborns can snuggle in facing their mommy.  As the kid gets older, then the baby can face out and take the world in with their own eyes.
  • Boppy Pillow:  I still use this at five months for feeding and have used the same one through all three kids.  My mom updated our Boppy cover with an adorable giraffe print from Pottery Barn Kids.  I didn’t know that they sold Boppy covers there, but they do and ours is super cute!
  • Summer Infant SwaddleMe:  All three kids of mine have been swaddled with SwaddleMe and have been good nappers and nighttime sleepers.  Definitely definitely worth it as it makes it a lot easier to get a tight swaddle!
  • Fisher-Price Cradle ‘N Swing:  All three of my little ones loved the swing and I LOVED it even more the second and third time around.  The lolling motion of the swing will put the baby to bed so there is no rocking the little baby to sleep while chasing a toddler.
  • Medela Pump in Style Advanced Breast Pump and Breastmilk Bags and Lansinoh HPA Lanolin:  I had a single pump the first time around and got a double pump the second time around.  I LOVED having the double, even as a stay at home mom who exclusively nurses.  I pump every morning after the first feed and have more than enough milk for bottles when we are out and about.
  • Luna and Bean Burp Cloths:  Hands down the best burp cloths I have used with three kids!
  • Lamaze Take Along Toy and Sassy Mirror:  You don’t really need any toys for the baby’s first three months of life, but a little stimulation won’t hurt.  Lamaze toys are adorable and perfect for little ones and the mirror is great for a baby to look at.
  • Fisher-Price Musical Floor Gym:  A place to put your little one and give him or her a little stimulation.  Worth every penny as we have had the same one with all three kids and use it daily in the “baby” stage!
  • The First Year’s Infant To Toddler Tub and Summer Infant Bath Sponge:  We have the tub that has lasted through all three kids, but I actually grew to love the bath sponge with all the traveling that we did in Abby’s three months of life.
  • aden + anais Swaddle Blankets:  These are the softest blankets ever and BIG, perfect for swaddling and cuddling.  Honestly, they really should start making adult sized blankets because they are that awesome!
  • Huggies Baby Wipes:  These are my favorite baby wipes and I often get them on Amazon with their Subscribe and Save deals combined with Amazon Mom.  If I forget, I am also known to pick up the Target up and up wipes often and they work well too!
  • Bouncer:  We have a Fisher Price bouncer that was passed down to us from some friends and it has lasted through at least five kids now.  Let’s you get your hands free for a few moments, I call that a must!
  • WubbaNub and Soothie Pacifiers:  This is a new addition to my baby must-haves list.  Abby loves the Soothie pacifiers and I have grown to love the Wubbanub because (a) it’s cute and (b) it’s easy to find in the diaper bag or in a big pile of toys and (c) it will lay on her during a car ride and is more likely to stay in her mouth versus just the pacifier.
  • Fisher-Price Rock ‘N Play Sleeper:  Another new one on my must-have list.  I didn’t have one of these for the two boys, but was gifted one for Abby.  And we LOVE it!  She slept in our rock and play for the first three months of life in our room.  Since we were selling our house, we needed something that we could fold up and store away while we were showing the house.  This was perfect and was awesome for traveling.  SO worth the money and she is a great sleeper in this thing.  Sleeping through the night for the most part at about two months!
  • Pampers Swaddlers Diapers:  These are my favorite diapers, especially for newborns, because they are super soft on baby’s bottom.
  • Diaper Bag, Wild Sprout Design:  I featured this diaper bag before Abby was born here, but now it has been tried and tested for over four months and LOVE it.  I use it daily and it holds all the things I need for all three of my kids, but still has a look I love!
  • Lullaby Sound Machine:  My boys have one of these in their room and Abby now has one in her room.  The white noise is supposed to lull the kids to sleep, but it definitely blocks the sounds that any one else is making.  Thankfully, with this amazing machine, Abby can sleep through the screams and shouts of her two older brothers.
  • Dolphin Organics Baby Shampoo and Lotion:  We love the scent of Dolphin Organics body wash and I love that it is an all natural and organic product to use on our little baby’s skin.
  • Super Soft Blanket:  My mom gave us a super soft handmade crochet blanket that she found and I LOVE it!  I use soft blankets a lot when I have a newborn to hold and cuddle, so I highly recommend to find just a few really soft blankets to add to your baby collection.
