10 Activities to Do at the Beach

June 20, 2014

Remember when beach vacations were all about reading magazines and relaxing in the sun? If you have little kids, beach days don’t look quite like they used to. The beach is a lot of fun with kids, but chasing them up and down the sand and in and out of waves is far from relaxing! It’s fun to have some beach activity ideas to entertain the kids and keep them in one spot for a few minutes! Here is a list of 10 activities to do at the beach:
10 Activities to Do at the Beach || The Chirping Moms
1.) Sand snowman
Use sand to form a snowman. Then use sticks, seaweed, shells and rocks to create the snowman’s face and body.

2.) Beach scavenger hunt
Make a list of things for kids to find on the beach and have them do a scavenger hunt to find the items. Examples of things to search for: seagull feather, mermaids purse (shown below), shells, seaweed, etc.

3.) Practice letters in the sand
Use the end of a shovel or a stick to practice writing letters in the sand.

4.) Make Shell Necklaces
Find shells with small holes in the top and use them to make necklaces. You can bring some string down to the beach with you or finish the necklaces at home.
5). Sand angels
Just like you’d make a snow angel, you can make a sand angel!

6.) Make yourself a mermaid
Have the child sit in the sand and then use sand to form a mermaid tail shape around their legs. This is one of our favorites!
7.) Make a sand meal
Use sand to make a pretend meal: make sand pancakes, sand meatballs, etc.
8.) Beach collage
Collect items at the beach: sand, seaweed, shells, etc and then use them back at home to create a beach collage. You can glue the items onto cardboard or arrange in a shoebox.

9.) Sand Art
For this activity, you’ll need paper, glue and sand. Make a shape with the glue on paper and then sprinkle sand over the paper. Shake off the sand and your masterpiece is complete!

10.) Paint shells
For this activity, collect the biggest shells yo u can find! Clean them off, and paint. We love painting shells.
