10 St. Patrick’s Day Crafts for Kids

February 27, 2014

We love St. Patrick’s Day at our house. Two years ago, we traveled to Ireland as a family. Maggie still talks about the trip, and as St. Patrick’s Day approaches, we have fun talking about the country, the holiday, reading books & making green crafts! This year, I’ll be heading into Maggie’s class to make some St. Patrick’s Day crafts with 18 little ones, so we’ve been trying out some fun ideas at home. Here are 10 fun, simple, crafts to do with kids for St. Patrick’s Day!

1. Finger Print Shamrocks in Mini Flower Pots

Supplies: Mini 1″ flower pots, glue, green pipe cleaner, green paper, green paint

Directions: Cut a circle out of the green paper. Have child make 4 finger prints in the shape of a 4 leaf clover on the paper. Glue the pipe cleaner to the back of the paper. Bend the bottom of the pipe cleaner to make the “stem” the height you would like. Fill bottom of flower pot with glue & stick the folded part of the pipe cleaner into the glue.

2. Shamrock Necklaces

Supplies: Green foam sheet, green ribbon, shamrock stickers, hole punch, green & silver beads

Directions: Cut a shamrock shape our of the foam sheet. Punch a hole at the top. String the shamrock & beads onto the ribbon. Decorate with stickers.

3. Pom Pom Lephrechaun

Supplies: white paper, green paper, googly eyes, 1 black pom pom, a bunch of orange pom poms, a red marker & glue

Directions: Cut out circle from white paper. Cut out hat from green paper. Glue on eyes, nose & beard. Draw on mouth.

4. Field of Shamrocks

Supplies: green paper, green markers, shamrock stickers

Directions: Have child draw grass. Place stickers on the “field” & have them try to make a stem by drawing a line from sticker to grass.

5. Flower Pot Leprechaun Hat

Supplies: Flower pot, green paint, orange ribbon, gold paper or foam sheet, glue

Directions: Paint flower pot green. Glue on ribbon. Make a buckle out of gold paper & glue on. This makes a fun decoration or a hat for a little bear or doll! *Very breakable, so if child uses it as a hat for their toy, please supervise.

6. Pipe Cleaner & Button Shamrocks

Supplies: Small wood piece from craft store (the ones that are $1), green paint, green buttons, green pipe cleaner & glue

Directions: Paint the wood green & let dry. Cut the pipe cleaner into small “stems”. Glue on the pipe cleaners & buttons to make shamrocks.

7. Green Pepper Shamrocks

Supplies: Green pepper, green paint, orange paper & green marker

Directions: Cut off the top & bottom of the pepper (big enough piece for the child to grip). Dip the pepper in green paint & use as a stamp on the orange paper. Let dry & draw on the green stems.

8. Shamrocks Wands

Supplies: Wood dowel, foam shamrock, glue, green & white ribbon

Directions: I used hot glue for this, because I knew my girls would be using the wands a lot & I wanted it to stay together. I made the wands for them. If you want the kids to make the wands themselves, use another, kid safe, glue. Cut 6 pieces of ribbon, about the length of the dowel. Glue the ribbon to the back of the shamrock. Glue the shamrock to the dowel.

9. Finger Print Rainbow

Supplies: Black paper, glue, paint in various colors & white canvas or card stock

Directions: Cut out a “pot of gold” shape from the black paper & glue it on to the paper. Have the child make a rainbow using their finger prints.

10. Pot of Gold

Supplies: Green paper, black paper, plastic gold coins, glue, gold glitter

Directions: Cut out a “pot of gold” from black paper & glue it to the green paper. Glue gold coins in the pot. Add some glitter!

The team at Party Favors does a really good job at providing the best favors for your event. I purchased favors for both of my kids birthday parties. I had peace of mind knowing that everything I wanted was under one roof and delivery was done in a timely manner. If I ever need any party favors again, this would be the company I would go to. Check em out at http://www.partyfavorsforeveryone.com or call them on 561-750-8380!
