5 Halloween Crafts for Kids & Really Cute Costume Ideas

August 28, 2017

It’s time to kick off my favorite time of year for crafts and decorating: Halloween! Today, we’re starting things off with 5 Halloween crafts for kids.

5 Halloween Crafts for Kids

Halloween DIY Mummy Cup

We’re using these for cute snack cups for a party. To start, they are a fun and very easy craft for kids.

Supplies: white paper cup, gauze, glue, sticker “monster eyes” and ribbon (optional)

Directions: Stick the “monster eyes” on the cup. Use a strip of gauze to wrap the cup like a mummy, leaving the eyes peeking out. At the end, use glue to secure the gauze. You can use some Halloween ribbon or rich race at the top, but that can be skipped.

Easy Light Up Jack-o-Lantern Mason Jar

This was such a fun project and a lot easier than I was expecting.

Supplies: Mason jar, orange tissue paper cut into squares, black paper, glue, Mod Podge and flameless votives

Directions: Spread a thin layer of glue all over the mason jar. Have the children stick the orange tissue squares all over the jar. Next use the black paper to cut out a jack-o-lantern face and glue it to the jar. Then, use a paint brush to cover the entire mason jar with Mod Podge. It will dry clear and seal the paper. It looks really pretty and you can light it up with the flameless votive. My kids thought it was so neat that they could put the candle in and light it themselves (since there’s no flame).

Popsicle Stick Frankenstein: An Easy Halloween Craft

Supplies: rectangle of cardboard, 4 large popsicle sticks, glue, black foam sheet, google eyes, black marker and green paint

Directions: Have the children paint the popsicle sticks green and let dry. Cut out some “Frankenstein hair” from the foam sheet. Glue the green popsicle sticks to the cardboard. If any of the cardboard is showing you can trim it off. Next, glue on the foam hair and the google eyes. Last use the marker to draw on the rest of the face and some stitches.

Flying Ghost Yarn Craft

I’ve seen versions of this ghost where you can loop or tie the yarn around the wood dowel, which probably makes it look a little neater/ is less messy. I’m crafting with kids that can’t tie so I tried to come up with a way to make it with glue. The kids had fun making the ghost fly around and loved when the wind picked up and blew the yarn!

Supplies: Wood dowel, black paint, black felt, white yarn and craft glue

Directions: Paint the wood dowel black. Cut strings of yarn the length you want the ghost to be. Take one string and tie it across the top to be the piece to hang the ghost from. Next, place a line of craft glue across the dowel. Stick the strings of yarn onto the wood. Last, cut out a ghost face from felt and glue the face to the yarn.

DIY Pumpkin Planter: Easy Halloween Craft and Decor

Supplies: paper cup, orange paint, black paper, dirt and grass seed

Directions: Paint the cup orange. Cut out a jack-o-lantern face from the black paper and glue it on the cup. Once dry, fill the cup with dirt and grass seed. Let the grass grow!
