The Chirping Moms

A Fun Christmas Poem For All Of Our Fellow Moms

December 21, 2013

For more holiday inspiration,  please follow our Pinterest boards for our latest pins, including all our favorite holiday ideas!

‘Twas the
night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Everyone
was still stirring, except that “exhausted” male spouse.
None of
the stockings hung by the chimney with care,
The kids
played with them all week, so the mantle was bare.
Mommy in
her pajamas that she had worn all day,
While
Daddy was asleep on the bed where he quickly hit the hay.
I was trying hard to get the kids in
their bed,
While
thoughts of how many gifts still to wrap spun in my head.
When down
in the playroom arose such a clatter,
Twas a
normal occurrence, so I figured nothing was the matter.
I peeked
in the kids’ rooms, they had finally dozed off to sleep,
So I
tip-toed downstairs, trying not to make a peep.
Expecting
toys all jumbled and strewn on the floor,
With that
annoying toy lion in the corner that continuously roars,
When what
to my “sleepless” and “tired” eyes did appear,
But a man
cleaning toys and a vacuum pushed by a reindeer.
The jolly
old man so lively and quick,
I knew in
a moment he must be St. Nick.
I couldn’t
believe how his helpers they came,
He
whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
“Now,
Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet!
on, Cupid! on, Donder and Blixen!
To the
dishes piled high! To the dust on the floor!
Now clean
away! clean away! clean away all!”
The house
was sparkling, thanks to that reindeer swarm,
&
Santa told me to sit & handed me a mug that was warm.
He said
not to worry the house was all set to go,
He had
piles of toys that would make the children smile and glow.
Moms need
to enjoy the spirit of Christmas too,
just like
the good boys and girls in their house effortlessly do.
Those
little ones grow with a blink & a flash,
So when
the wrapping paper starts flying, please don’t think of the trash.
Think of
the memories piling ever so high,
and the
magic of reindeer that can fly through the sky.
This
special time only comes once a year,
So spend
all the moments in Christmas joy and jolly good cheer.
A wink of
his eye and a loving pat on my head,
Soon gave
me to know that I had nothing to dread.
He spoke
no more words but handed me some wine,
And I knew
that he was certainly a man ever so fine.
It was now
time to say good-bye and do part,
For there
were other moms who needed a lift in the heart.
To all the
moms out there who try to do it all just so right,
Merry
Christmas to All and to All a good night.

That is a pretty awesome rendition of the Clement Clarke Moore poem! My twins have a toy similar to the lion that constantly roars. It's a talking, singing Fischer-Price puppy from Grandma, who found 2 more (but slightly different) puppies that she's sending as Christmas gifts. Yippee. I can definitely relate to the toys being all over. If you see Saint Nick again, let him know I've been a very good girl and the vacuum is in the closet. And thank you for the reminder to make some memories this season 🙂
