A New App for Parents: Leapfrog Learning Path

November 11, 2013

Tonight, I wanted to share with you all one of my new finds this past week, the Leapfrog Learning Path app.  It’s a wonderful, new resource for parents and it’s FREE!  This app, developed by Leapfrog, takes the guess work out of figuring out what your child should know and be able to do.

How does it work?  First, each of your child gets their own profile.  Since my kids have their own Leapfrog accounts (due to us owning several Leapfrog products), I could link my pre-existing Leapfrog profile with all of their information entered automatically.  All three of my children (ages 4, 2, and baby) now have their own personalized learning path in this app, based on their ages and gender.

On each child’s profile, you can quickly find age-appropriate activities and parenting articles, learning goals, and discussions where you can join in with other parents.  It’s easy and quick to switch and navigate between each child’s profiles (just a swipe with your finger).

I loved exploring the “learning goals” for my children, especially for my oldest son who will be entering kindergarten next year.  Aiden, as a Pre-K, has fourteen goals in a variety of categories including mathematics, reading and writing, and science.  These goals will change as he develops and grows.  For each goal, I like that there is recommended activities that will help him achieve success.  Many of the activities are simple to do with my child, such as playing a simple language game with him or printing out a fun little “printable” for him to complete.

For each child, there is an updated weekly list of activities, articles, and parenting tips that you can quickly scroll through.  The activities are easy to do and don’t require much preparation from the caregivers.  This week, one of the Pre-K fun activities to do with your child is create a turkey with handprints cut out of construction paper.

There are some great and easy parenting tips as well, such as “Add frozen peas to cool down hot soups and add nutrition.”  This week, for my 7 month old Abby, one of the recommended tips is below:

And you can always join view or join discussions with other users.  For example, one of the discussions that is occurring for “Curious Twos” is about empathy:

For ideas and activities that I find while searching in my free time, I like how you can “favorite” the item and can easily access it in my “Favorites” section to refer to later.

I definitely recommend this the Leapfrog Learning Path app to parents and caregivers.  It’s a wonderful, free, and easily accessible resource for parents, head on over to the Apple store and try it out!
