The Chirping Moms

Add This to Your Spring Cleaning & Home Refresh

April 15, 2022

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Window Covering Safety Council for IZEA Worldwide. All opinions are 100% mine.

When I think of Spring and my house, I always think about Spring cleaning and what might need a refresh after the winter. One important thing to check out in your house this spring: your window coverings. Checking that your home is safe should always be an important part of your Spring cleaning checklist. I’m really happy to be partnering with the Window Covering Safety Council this spring and sharing some stats, tips and safer options. Make sure to add this to your spring refresh this year:

Tips from the Window Covering Safety Council

This spring: walk around your house and check your window coverings. Older corded window coverings often have looped pull cords or inner cords that are accessible to children. Both of these pose a risk to small children. If they have tassled pull cords make sure they are tucked away and always out of reach of children.

If it’s time to replace window coverings – Spring is a great time to do this! Replace them with cordless products. We just ordered new blinds and it was so easy to find great cordless options.

You can now look for the “Best for Kids” logo when shopping for window coverings. These products are available at all major US retailers. Products with the Best for Kids™ label have gone through third party testing and are designed for use in homes with young kids. US Safety Standard now requires that all stock products be cordless, or have inaccessible cords.

This is our first Spring since our home renovations so we have lots to check, clean and refresh. Window coverings are something we haven’t tackled since finishing the project so being able to easily pick the safe options is great.

Did you know?

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), one of the top hidden hazards in the home are corded window coverings because they can be a potential strangulation hazard for infants and young children.

Who is the Window Covering Safety Council?

The Window Covering Safety Council  or the WCSC is a council dedicated to educating consumers about window covering cord safety. The Window Covering Safety Council urges parents and caregivers to check their window coverings for exposed or dangling cords which can pose a strangulation hazard to infants and young children.
