An Exciting Day in New York City With P&G and Duane Reade

June 26, 2013

Last week, I hopped on the train to New York City with Maggie & Alex. We were heading to Herald Square for the Proctor and Gamble (P&G) Everyday Effect event. The event was the largest consumer event in their 175 year history, so we were excited to be there for all of the action. As a part of the event, we had a chance to pop into one of our New York City favorites, Duane Reade, to interview the beautiful Katrina Bowden.

When I first heard about P&G’s Everyday Effect campaign, I started to think about just how many P&G products we have in our house. From our bathroom to the nursery, our house is packed with P&G products. When we wake up in the morning, we use Charmin in the bathroom. Then we brush with Crest & rinse with Scope. Throughout my three years of motherhood, I have changed over 10,000 Pampers diapers. As our days go on, so does the list of P&G products we come in contact with. That’s why when I heard about the fantastic event they were hosting in New York City, I wanted to attend with my girls.

The event was fun for all three of us. Maggie & Alex both enjoyed meeting the “Bear on the toilet paper”. Their favorite part of the event was getting to meet Griffin, one of the Iams pups!

We caught a ride over to Duane Reade where I had a chance to speak with Katrina Bowden, of 30 Rock. I was interested to know why she was participating in P&G’s Everyday Effect Campaign. She said, like me, she couldn’t believe how many Proctor and Gamble products she uses everyday. Some of her favorite products include Secret, Olay, Venus & Swiffer. As far as the campaign goes, Katrina is a New Yorker herself & thought it was a great idea to have a day where people around the city could get samples of their favorite products.

After the interview we spent a little time browsing Duane Reade & picking up a few things we forgot to bring on our trip into the city. We rarely come into the city without stopping at a Duane Reade for something. It’s such a convenient store & I wish we had one in our neighborhood at home. When we stay in the city, we stay at my aunt’s apartment, which is next door to a Duane Reade. I love being able to run downstairs to grab anything we might need ( #DuaneReade #cbias ).

In addition to the excitement in Herald Square, there were pop-up surprises throughout the city including Scope mouthwash stations outside coffee shops, new Febreze car clips for the taxis, beauty touch ups and male grooming stations, and even some special deliveries for new moms at the local hospitals!

As we walked from the Duane Reade in Herald Square back to Penn Station, we passed quite a few P&G friends passing out samples. We were very surprised to see a shower outside Penn Station where  you could grab a bar of Old Spice soap. As we were walking by we even saw someone hop in the shower with the water on wearing a suit! It reminded me of the latest Old Spice commercials.

We had such a fun time enjoying all of the excitement of the P&G Everyday Effect live event. It was a great to see all of our favorite products in action & to help P&G celebrate everyday moments.

As you mention it, I am struck by how many P&G products my family uses, as well! I find it interesting that I've been stocking my own home with the same tried and true P&G products I grew up with – familiar with the quality and performance. What a fun event to explore – thanks so much for sharing your experience!
