The Chirping Moms

The Christmas Eve Box Tradition

December 20, 2016

We are enjoying the festive last week before Christmas!

My kids are out of school & we have been doing a lot of this…

Yes, that’s how our family is rolling this week.  Hanging out in our pajamas all day, with no big plans or activities on the calendar.  We have been spending lots of time at home baking cookies, playing games, & getting ready for the holidays.  This is one of my favorite weeks of the year to sit back, relax, & enjoy the time together as a family.

As I shared last month, one of my favorite traditions during the holiday season is our annual Christmas book countdown.  I wrap a total of twenty five books before the first of December and we place under the tree.  Every day, the kids get to unwrap one book a night that we read together as a family.  Below are some of my favorite holiday books:

25 Days of Christmas Books || A Fun Christmas Tradition for Kids #christmasbooks #christmasbooksforkids #holidaybooks

Goodnight Manger

Ready, Set, Find Christmas

Little Blue Truck’s Christmas

Duck & Goose: It’s Time for Christmas

The Story of Christmas

Llama Llama Holiday Drama

Bear Stays Up for Christmas

Merry Christmas Mom & Dad

Pete the Cat Saves Christmas

A Royal Christmas to Remember

Christmas Love Letters from God

The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel

The Legend of St. Nicholas

How to Catch Santa

Humphrey’s First Christmas

A Night of Great Joy

The Berenstain Bears Christmas Fun Sticker & Activity Book

Snowbear’s Christmas Countdown

The Polar Express

Santa’s Favorite Story

The Biggest Christmas Tree Ever

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bell

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Berenstain Bears & The Joy of Giving

The Night Before Christmas

But the tradition doesn’t end there.  With Christmas Eve four days away, I wanted to share one of our favorite traditions of the holiday season.  After we attend the Christmas Eve service, we head home for a special family dinner and to open our Christmas Eve box as well as our last wrapped book, The Night Before Christmas.  On Christmas Even, the kids get so excited to open this special “Christas Eve” box and discover …

A whole box of goodies to welcome Christmas!  First, each kid receives a new pair of holiday pajamas to wear on Christmas morning.  This year, I picked out pajamas & slippers from Gymboree.  The kids are going to love the fun prints that I found this year, especially with the matching slippers.  For the boys, I picked out a matching set of Dino Gymmies & super soft matching Fair Isle slipper socks.  Abby has really into “playing” Santa & reindeers, so the festive Polar Pajama set is perfect for her!  I also picked up the soft & cuddly Snow White Bear Slippers.

Next, I include a special new Christmas book for each child.  This year, I am including a few personalized books from I See Me & the Berenstain Bears Christmas activity book.  Last, I love to include one game that we can all enjoy together as a family.  I have a feeling that UNO Attack will be a hit this year with the kids, ranging in age from three to eight!  A few other ideas to add to the special Christmas Eve box include: popcorn, hot cocoa, and a movie to enjoy together as a family.  This tradition is one of my kids’ favorites & is relatively easy to prepare before the big day.  We hope you enjoy this fun Christmas tradition and enjoy the last few days before Christmas arrives!

I love the Christmas Eve Box you put together. I know I am working a wedding Christmas Eve this year but I think this would be a great way to make up for that. I’ll be going out to get the PJ’s for my girls this weekend and a few things for the box. Thank you so much!
