Day in the Life of Jersey

Over the years, you’ve seen snippets of what it’s like to be our Boston Terrier, Jersey. Most of these have been in the form of photos of her being involved in Maggie and Alex’s daily dress up routine. When my husband and I watch Jersey around the kids, we always say “we couldn’t have found a more patient dog”. It’s true. Jersey was our first swing at parenting. When she came along we had no kids and our dog got all our attention all the time. We worried how she would react to us bring a baby into the house, but from day one, Jersey was kind, patient and loving to our babies. She always gets a bit nervous when they learn to crawl and someone new is chasing her around “at her level”, but she quickly adjusts.

Since we made the switch to Purina ProPlan Bright Mind food, we’ve been paying close attention to Jersey on a day to day basis, to see if we see any results. We have. First off, she really likes the food a lot. She seems to enjoy it more than other foods we have gotten, so she is more excited at meal time. ProPlan Bright Mind is specially formulated to increase cognitive awareness in adult (age 7+) dogs. Since Jersey turned 8 a few weeks ago, we thought it was definitely time to find a food fit for her age.

We’re really impressed with the food. If you’re looking for a special food for your 7+ dog, right now if you spend $10 on any Purina Pro Plan Dry Dog or Cat Food* at PetSmart between 8/31 and 10/4, you can save $10 on your next Purina Pro Plan Dry Food purchase, 14-lb. or more, on or before 11/1.

So what’s a day in the life of Jersey like? She gets her morning walk from our early bird Maggie. Maggie has learned to put on Jersey’s harness and leash and walks her all around our yard. Shortly after, when Alex wakes up, she feeds Jersey breakfast. Jersey hangs with the kids while they get ready for school and then once they’re off for the day, Tommy and I take her for a longer morning walk.

While the kids are at school and Tommy naps, Jersey enjoys the quiet by curling up in her bed for a while. I think she’s learned that once the kids come home, you never know how loud and crazy it can get! Jersey enjoys hanging in the yard with the kids and at our new house, is lucky to have a great “dog pal” next door. Jersey and Ruby have become fast friends and they seem to enjoy playing just as much as all the kids in the neighborhood do!

Jersey is great around kids and always patient and lovable. But, her favorite time of day is definitely when Tom gets home and she gets a long evening stroll with him. You can get a glimpse at this special part of “a day in the life of Jersey” in this video. You can get a great view of her perspective thanks to the GoPro dog harness!

We used to always get a kick out of how Jersey’s ears would only stand up straight when we said “walk” in the most excited, accentuated voice we could. We hadn’t done it in a long time, but now that the girls are helping with walks, we showed them how Jersey responds and they got a kick out of it! Jersey remembered right away, and was back to her old tricks of getting super excited with perked up ears when we said “walk” in that silly voice.

We’re so glad our 8 year old dog still has the happy energy of a young pup. We hope she always stays this way. I didn’t realize that by the time a dog reaches 7 they are considered senior. We are really glad we made the switch to Purina ProPlan Bright Mind. We’ve noticed differences in owner-dog interaction and interest in play, which many dog owners who have switched to this food have seen as well. According to experts at Purina Pro Plan, around 7, the glucose metabolism in a dog’s brain begins to change, which can affect memory, learning, awareness or decision making. By introducing Bright Mind Adult 7+ formula food, Purina Pro Plan has discovered a way to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs 7+ through nutrition.

We hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into a day in the life of Jersey the 8 year old Boston Terrier! What does your dog’s day look like?
