Today I’m sharing the details of how I made the DIY rope rainbow in Parker’s nursery because so many people have asked and I want YOU to be able to make it too before your baby arrives…or not for a baby! I always wanted to make this but never had the time. I told myself that if I went over my due date and had “extra” unplanned for time, this would be my DIY project.

The process of making it felt so special. It was a way to diffuse my thoughts about when she would arrive and put my energy into something else. I crafted it in her nursery and felt like we were working on it together and bonding, knowing that her arrival would be any day.

Now, every time I look at it I think of that special time when we were so close to meeting each other and love that it has this meaning behind it. I hung it behind the rocker and she loves staring at it while I’m breastfeeding her.

I also like that the rainbow ties in Hawaii and our babymoon as well as the rainbow relaxation meditation that I did every morning from my hypnobirthing class.

The best things about this DIY are that 1 – it wasn’t that hard to make and 2 – you can customize the yarn colors to match your nursery.

I used a combination of these instructions from Pure Sweet Joy and the video below. You can head to her website for the step by step, but of the “what you need” section, the only things I swapped were the wire for floral wire and then instead of using the cotton and needle to sew each rainbow layer together, I followed the video and used a glue gun.

If you do know how to sew, then you might want to do that because if you look at mine up close, you can see the dried glue a bit but I don’t know how to sew so I opted away from that. I did however use a random sewing kit that I found in my toiletry bag (must have gotten for free from a hotel) to sew a ribbon onto the back of it. I did not know what I was doing but just kept threading it in and out until it was secure. I bought all of my supples from AC Moore and Joannes Fabric.

Enjoy!
