A Fun Earth Day Craft for Kids

April 19, 2013

We have been talking about taking care of the Earth in this house as we are preparing for our celebration of Earth Day next week!  To kick off our “Earth” week in our house, I read Our Earth by Anne Rockwell to the boys.  We talked about how Earth is made up of land and water and then we created this fun and easy “Earth” craft!
Supplies needed:

  • 2  tbsp. of salt
  • 2 tbsp. of flour
  • 4 tbsp. of water
  • Green and blue paint
  • Paper plate

Mix the ingredients together in a cup.  Then, paint the plate with the mixture to look like Earth.  (I drew basic outlines for the kids to color “land” versus “water”.)  It is a thick paint, but you want the paint to go on thick for the result to work!

After you are done painting, pop it in the microwave for 45-60 seconds.  When it is done, the paint will be puffy and dry.  The boys LOVED their “puffy paint” Earths!
