The Chirping Moms

An Easy and #HelpfulScoutElf on the Shelf Idea

December 12, 2017

It’s been one week since our Elf on the Shelf has arrived back into our house!  The kids couldn’t be more excited to have our old pal join us for the month of December.  Every morning, the kids race down the stairs to find our elf and see where he is and what he may be doing.  It’s one of their favorite things in the month of December watching the antics of their silly elf and what he is up to each day.  As much as I love watching the kids get a kick out of the elf antics, I am not one of those people who spend hours setting up elf scenarios each day.  By the time I get all four kids to bed, I am ready for bed myself so whatever I plan for the elf has to be simple!

This year, I’m coming at this a little differently. I’m putting our little Elf on the Shelf to work helping me around the house, while at the same time keeping the kids happy with fun, creative and engaging scenes. Our #HelpfulScoutElf has not only made my life easier, but the kids have had a blast watching what he is up to each day. Today, I am going to share my kids’ favorite #HelpfulScoutElf  scene so far this year!

The kids and I have been debating one of the all important Christmas decisions this year:  white lights vs. colored lights.  We have always used the classic white light look on our tree and hanging outside to decorate our house.  Up until this year, no one has ever questioned my love for the beautiful and simple white lights. This year, all my kids keep telling me is that they wish we had colored lights.  I laughed it off & we still hung the white lights on the tree and outside that we already own.

But when I found the National Lampoon’s LED multisome LED colored lights at my local Ace Hardware, I thought it would be so much fun to have our #HelpfulScoutElf surprise the kids by stringing up our tree with the oh-so-desirable colored lights. I love shopping for my holiday décor at Ace because it’s a one-stop shop to get everything you need, and the associates are so helpful! And I’ll definitely be back to Ace to pick up some holiday gifts – they have great brands like Yeti and Craftsman, not to mention holiday discounts on many products. Plus if you’re an Ace Rewards member, you’ll get free assembly and delivery on grills over $399! Makes it so easy to hide that big gift!

Anyway, back home, as soon as the kids went to bed last night, #HelpfulScout Elf got to work.  He pulled out the strand of colored lights from Ace and climbed up one of our toy fire trucks so he could reach the tree. As he was putting the finishing touches on the tree this morning, the kids woke up and came downstairs.  They couldn’t be more excited to find their elf hanging colored lights in our house.  The combination of white and colored bulbs looked amazing, plus these specific lights have more lights per foot and are 4x brighter than standard bulbs, so they really brightened up the tree!  I can’t wait to see other ways  our #HelpfulScoutElf makes the kids’ holiday wishes come true around the house.

If you could use some extra help this holiday season, I encourage you to make a trip to your local Ace, or visit AceHardware.com, for any products or gifts you need. Then enlist your Elf on the Shelf at home to help you prepare for the holidays and share your #HelpfulScoutElf photo on Facebook and/or Instagram using #HelpfulScoutElf and #TheChirpingMoms for a chance to win a $100 Ace Hardware gift card. Follow along with the hashtag for idea inspiration!
