Easy Summer Craft: Paper Plate Pirates

July 16, 2015

Ahoy matey! Do you have any pirate fans in your house? My girls spent time looking out for pirates at the beach last week and when we got home I thought it would be fun to make a pirate of our own. If you don’t have all the supplies listed, you can substitute red and black paper (instead of felt and ribbon). We used small paper plates, but you could also use larger/ standard size plates and make them more like the size of a mask. Now the girls want to figure out how to build a ship for the pirates!

Paper Plate Pirates

Supplies: glue stick, paper plate, red marker, black yarn, black felt, red felt, 1 google eye and red ricrac or ribbon.

Directions: Cut a semi circle out of red felt to cover the top portion of the plate (pirate’s bandana). Cut 2 pieces of red ricrac/ribbon a few inches long. Glue the ricrac to the top corner of the plate. Next cover the whole portion of the plate where the bandana will go and stick on the red felt. Next draw a line in glue under the bandana and stick on the black yarn. We taped the two ends of the yarn around the back of the plate to make it look like it was really tied around the pirate’s head. Cut an eye patch out of black felt and glue it to the yarn. Next glue on the google eye. Last, use the marker to draw on a smile.

Here’s a quick video of our pirate coming together:
