Entry Bench Remodel!!!!

October 9, 2012

This was a project that I decided to attempt early last summer but have yet to share it with all of you readers!  I love our house, but it is OLD!  One thing that I miss is an entryway with a front closet to store coats, purses, gloves, hats, shoes, etc.  When you walk into our house, you enter right into our living room!  To help prevent clutter from overtaking our living room, I bought this very affordable bench at Christmas Tree Shoppe a couple years ago when we moved here.  One basket holds adult shoes, one basket holds kid shoes, and the other basket holds umbrellas, dog leashes, and a few other miscellaneous items.  But I am not in love with this plain beige cover—BORING and UGLY!  And with two kids and many people trampling in and out of the house, it definitely showed its wear!
How can I fix this?!?!
At first I thought I was going to sew a cover and then I had a new idea that was super SIMPLE and required NO use of our sewing machine and I may have recruited my husband to do most of the work:)  I bought a board at Home Depot that was similar size to the cushion.  Then, we just stretched some outdoor fabric (so it is super easy to clean) that I picked up at Joann Fabrics and stapled it on the back side with a staple gun.

VOILA—-a new beautiful cover!!!!!

Love it! It's always a great day when you can "spruce up" what you already own! It's like having a new piece of furniture now!
