Festive ( & Easy) Holiday Hors d’oeuvres

December 3, 2012

For more holiday inspiration,  please follow our Pinterest boards for our latest pins, including all our favorite holiday ideas!

I love hosting around the holidays. Cooking for a group of people can be stressful though. I like to find fun, festive hors d’oeuvres to kick off the party. I have a very small kitchen & typically the main course is taking up the whole oven. I like easy hors d’oeuvres that don’t have to be warm to ease some of the party prep stress. Three of my favorites:

1. Tomato, Basil & Mozzarella

It’s a sure hit & it’s Christmas colors! I usually get a cherry tomato, a piece of basil & a small ball of mozzarella & put it all on a toothpick. Then the three lined up look festive & are easy for guests to pick up & enjoy.

2. Christmas Tree Cheese & Veggie Platter

I saw something like this on Pinterest last year. I have done if different depending on how big of a crown i’m having & what ingredients I have. I made this one for our Pinterest Night last week. Last Christmas Eve I made one that was about 3 times the size & included a bunch of different rows of crackers & a row or two of rosemary on the twig (to make it look more tree like!).

The star at the top is just a piece of cheese cut with a cookie cutter.

3. Veggie Dip & Bread Wreath

I found this one while browsing around Taste of Home. I make it slightly different.

Ingredients

1 tube of crescent rolls

8oz cream cheese

1/2 cup sour cream

1 teaspoon dill weed

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

2 cup chopped fresh broccoli florets

1/2 cup finely chopped celery

1 cup finely chopped sweet red pepper

Celery leaves

Directions

Remove crescent dough from packaging (do not unroll). Cut into 12 slices. Arrange in a circle on a piece of foil on a pan.

Bake at 375° for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool completely. Carefully move the wreath onto whatever platter you will be serving it on.

In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese, sour cream, dill and garlic powder. Spread over wreath & then top with the chopped veggie mix. Use the celery leaves to make a “bow” at the bottom.
