I noticed something about my kids and dinner time this summer: they seem to really like routine. I guess without noticing, I frequently say “eat your dinner and you can have a little dessert.” I didn’t realize I was saying that all the time until Maggie said “When do we get to have a LITTLE dinner and a BIG dessert?” So I declared the following night would be “little dinner, big dessert night” and then it stuck. Every Tuesday that’s what we did. What the kids didn’t realized was that Tuesday became “big lunch filled with veggies” day, in anticipation of the “little dinner” that would come that night. They think it’s the coolest night and asked if we could have other nights of the week that we could name. One we came up with was Pizza & Games Friday.
Sometimes we’ll order in, sometimes we’ll make our own, but I was determined to find a frozen option to have on hand too. When I was a kid we only had one kind of frozen pizza. For my entire childhood I can’t remember a time when I would open the freezer and not see a box of Ellio’s Pizza. My brothers and I ate it for lunch and dinner, but my fondest Ellio’s memories are sitting around the table with friends enjoying it as an after school snack. My kids can be pretty picky, so I was excited when I made their first Ellio’s Pizza and they immediately asked for another piece. I think my stories about eating it after school with their uncles made them more excited to try it. So now we have a “go-to” frozen pizza option for our new Pizza and Games Friday.
I initially went for Ellio’s because that’s what we had growing up. I was really happy to find out that Ellio’s only uses the freshest ingredients, with 100% real cheese and no artificial flavors. Ellio’s Pizza is available in more flavors than I remember trying as a kid: six to be exact. Ellio’s Pizza comes in Cheese, Pepperoni, Supreme, Five Cheese, Italian Sausage & Pepperoni, & Extra Cheese. You can use the store locator on the Ellio’s homepage to find the closest place to get Ellio’s Pizza. If you have FreshDirect, you can order it there (that’s where we get it).
