Friday Favorites: Favorite Ways to Look and Feel Better During Cold and Flu Season

February 21, 2015

Disclosure: I participated in the Pass The Puffs blog program as a member of One2One Network. I received compensation but all opinions are my own.

It’s 5 degrees outside right now. The whole family has had a runny nose for what seems like months, and today the only way we could focus on warmer days ahead, was to start countdown to our town pool opening. That’s right, only 92 more days until we’re covering the kids in sunscreen and hopping in the pool! According to the CDC, this winter has been one of the toughest flu seasons in recent memory. Our area, the New York City area, is on high alert for an outbreak of the flu. Until the warm weather is back and we have all the vitamin D we can handle, here are some ways to look and feel your best during cold and flu season, including our switch to Puffs with Lotion tissues:

1. Drink plenty of water: I always heard this, but never listened. Then, I got really sick when I was pregnant and instead of being able to pop cold medicine, I had to try things like “drinking water”. I couldn’t believe how much it helped. It definitely shortened the length of the cold. Also, water is great for keeping your skin looking better during the winter months.

2. Orange Juice: The kids went through a few weeks of not being able to kick a cold, and we started having OJ every morning and a glass in the late afternoon. It seemed to really help. I now start each day with a glade of orange juice too!

3. Exercise: This can be tough in the winter. It’s hard to get motivated and even harder to find somewhere to exercise when you can’t get outdoors as often. I always feel a lot better when I get some exercise and I know the kids do too. We’ve tried our best to battle the cold weather and still  take walks now and then. We’ve also sought out open gym at our community center and other places to spend some time running around. Exercise helps me feel better and healthier, and I swear by letting the kids run around in fresh air at least a few minutes a day, to keep the flu away!

4. Oils: During the cold winter months my whole family gets really dry skin. This year we’ve been trying different oils and have seen great results. My husband and I have an oil we keep my the kitchen sink for our hands. I found a natural oil that’s safe for the kids’ skin and I cover them in it after bath. I’ve noticed a big difference this year, now that we all use oil on our skin.

5. Last but not least, we switched up our tissues this winter and have seen a big difference in how our face looks and feels. Typically by mid winter, the kids have that tell tale cold sign on their face: bright red upper lip and nose area. My kids like to rub their nose as hard as they can with a tissue. This leaves their already dry skin, looking even drier and red. This season, we switched to Puffs with Lotion.

Puffs with Lotion really helps with looking and feeling your best during cold and flu season. They have just the right amount of softness to help the irritation caused by runny noses, coughs and sneezing. I’m not sure why I never tried them before, but they are so much softer on our face!

Head over to the Puffs Facebook page or their website for more information on looking and feeling your best this winter.
