The Chirping Moms

Friday Favorites: Kitchen Fun For Kids {& Giveaway}

May 16, 2014

Both of my children love to bake. If we’re not “really” baking, then they are pretending to cook and bake. On one of their favorite TV shows, the characters recently prepared a “royal feast”. Now, Maggie and Alex prepare me daily “feasts” to enjoy. I look forward to the day that they can serve me real food, and I can get a break in the kitchen! They are both pretty good at coming up with pretend food on their own; using items like blocks to things they draw on paper. They especially love “play food” that they can add to their cooking feast. I recently found out that HABA, one of our favorite baby toy makers, has a line of play food. The German toymaker has been spending lots of time in the kitchen, now bringing families soft play foods.  We love the hotdog with the Ketchup & Mustard that “squirt” red or yellow string!

As much as they enjoy playing with pretend food, both girls go crazy with excitement when I tell them it’s time to bake something “real”.  HABA also has a line of silicone kitchen molds. They are fun shapes, bright colors and make cooking with kids a blast.
We tried out the Summer Flower Silicone Cake Mold and the Jungle Snake Mold. With the flower, the center and the petals are 2 molds. So we decided to try out coloring the cake mix. The cake itself was bright pink and purple, so we skipped icing and just used a little to decorate.
Since we have been spending a lot of time gardening and searching for worms lately, we decided to turn our Jungle Snake mold into a worm. Then, we put the worm in a pile of dirt (crushed Oreos) when we iced and decorated it. We had a lot of fun with this one!
We also have been enjoying the Silicone Popsicle Tray. We have the “Tray Magica” and like the fun shapes of the ice pops we create. We’ve tried many ice pop trays over the past few summers and this is by far the easiest to use and clean. The girls like to make the ice pops themselves, so I give them little cups of juice to pour into the mold. We are all set for summer with this tray!
Now for a special Friday giveaway! One lucky winner will receive:
