How to Make A Bib (Very Easily)

August 1, 2012

Let me start this week’s tutorial by saying it’s easier than last week’s (I promise). You could actually make this without a sewing machine if you wanted. I love making bibs this way because you can make them reversible! Also, when I can find it, I try & make one side with vinyl fabric so you can wipe it clean. If you are making the bib & have questions, please email me!

You will need:
A bib you have that you like the size (to trace)
Piece of paper
2 pieces of fabric about the size of the bib you will be tracing
Very thin batting or thin fleece (this can be skipped)
Velco
Thread

Start with the bib you have that you like the size. Trace it on a piece of paper trying to add about 1/4 inch around the whole thing.

Pin the cut out onto each piece of fabric & cut out the shape of the bib.

Pin to the batting/fleece & cut. This part can be skipped but I think it makes the bib a little sturdier looking.

Sew on any ribbon, ric rac, etc to the fabric.

Place the 3 pieces together. Batting/fleece first & then the two pieces of fabric.

Sew around the entire bib, leaving about a 2 inch opening at the bottom.

Turn the bib inside out. Now sew around the entire bib again, closing up the opening. For this part you can choose a fun, wider stitch if you want!

Last, stitch on the velco at the top. You could also do snaps here if you have them. Enjoy!

This looks so easy, but I'm terrible at sewing so I'm sure I would find some way to mess it up! ha I've pinned it though and think this might be an easy project for me to start with ๐Ÿ™‚

The product should cover at least one-half of the length of the child's shirt. Otherwise, dropped food can easily tumble past the covering and onto the shirt. If you do not know how tall the child is, or the length of his or her shirts, choose a product that is intended for his or her age range.

You have made a very beautiful bib! I adore the cuteness that surrounded these baby bibs. I agree that the product (bibs) should cover at least one-half of the child's shirt because as we all know the small or inappropriate size of bibs will be left behind and remain useless when it comes to mealtimes. One way of handling/controlling the messiness of our toddler is by using baby bibs or something that will keep them clean throughout the whole mealtime. But these baby bibs are perfect for the drooling babies. Amazing cute little model! Good Job!
