Miles’ Milestones: 10 Months

December 29, 2016

This was a big month for Miles: he celebrated his first Christmas and started crawling everywhere.

Miles is 10 months old and on the go! He started the month scooting just a bit and now he’s chasing his siblings around the house. He crawls non stop. He also started dancing this month. When he hears music he moves like crazy, claps, laughs and shakes his hands to the beat. Our elf delivered a singing Christmas tree and that’s by far his favorite thing to dance to. We press the button on the tree, the music starts and Miles goes wild!

Miles isn’t pulling up to standing, but will kneel up as tall as he can to grab things off the table. When we are sitting on the couch, he crawls to the other side of the coffee table, kneels and then we see his little hands and face peak up.

Miles started sitting up in the tub. He still prefers his mesh bath seat but spends part of bath time sitting up like his big brother, splashing everywhere.

This month Miles really started mimicking sounds we make. When we make sounds he repeats them. When I ask what Santa says, Miles replies “ho, ho, ho”. Our babysitter taught him the baby sign for “more” and “all done”. He’s my first baby to learn any signs and it’s neat to see him do it.

Miles loves Daddy. He reaches for him at every chance he gets. Often, if Tom is holding him and I take him, he cries until he goes back to Dad. That’s about the only thing that makes him cry. Miles is still our joyful, giggly, happy go lucky little guy.

Now that Miles can crawl, he’s even more “in on the action” with his siblings. He loves playing with them.

Eating: Miles is still an eating machine. Starting this month, he pretty much eats exactly what the other kids eat for dinner. I add in a little baby food at some meals for some extra fruit/veggies. I think his favorite food is ziti and meatballs. He also loves the donuts from our local farm.

This month, Mile stopped nursing. He totally self weaned, which I wasn’t quite ready for. I nursed Miles longer than his siblings and therefore thought we’d make it to a year. He just wasn’t very interested and prefers to hold a bottle himself. At the start of 10 months, he was down to nursing 2 times a day, by mid month he only nursed if he woke in the middle of the night or super early in the morning and by last week, he stopped completely. I’m just about done pumping too and can’t believe I’m almost done for good. Miles was by far the easiest baby to nurse and wean.

This month was filled with lots of fun Christmas festivities. Miles met Santa a few times! In the beginning of the month, we traveled to Smithville with family for a special brunch and met Santa. We also got to spend some time at the beach. A week or 2 later, Santa arrived at our house on the Firetruck and came inside with gifts. Miles was ok when Santa held him and then looked at us, back at Santa and screamed! When we went to the mall for a photo with Santa, I was shocked that all 4, including Miles, were happy to sit with Santa and there were no tears. Christmas weekend was extra special, as we celebrated Miles’ First Christmas. We had family visit and spent a lot of time in our pajamas enjoying gifts. Miles loved all of the excitement Christmas morning and his favorite part was all the wrapping paper. His favorite gifts were sensory balls and a basketball.

This first Christmas outfit and hat are very special. We actually have 2 pairs because BOTH Tom and I had the same 1st Christmas outfit (born years apart!) and BOTH of our moms happened to save it. We therefore have it in 2 sizes and have gotten to put it on our babies at their 1st Christmas even though they have ranged in age/size.

It was a lot of fun celebrating a 1st Christmas with a baby that was old enough to sit, play and enjoy the excitement. The greatest gift we got this year was Miles and we are blessed to celebrate this Christmas with our sweet baby boy.
