Miles’ Milestones: 7 Months

September 24, 2016

I am determined to keep up with Miles’ milestone posts. I’m 3 weeks late in posting, but here goes:

This has been a big month for Miles! He’s rolling around and sitting on his own. He also cut his top front teeth. He’s gone from eating baby food, yogurt and a few finger foods to just about everything. He loves steamed sweet potatoes cut in long spears that he can hold. He also loves pancakes and pasta.

Now that Miles can sit up, he is so interactive with his siblings. He smiles, giggles and waves his arms like he’s saying “over here guys, I can play too now!” He looks back and forth as fast as he can to watch their every move. He grabs at their toys and even likes to “play ball” with Tommy. Tommy now thinks his brother is fully ready to play and sometimes gets too exciting -especially when throwing the ball! It’s so much fun to watch. Miles is really part of the gang now.

Along with sitting, rolling and trying to play with his siblings, I’ve noticed quite the silly personality emerging. I’ve noticed that he has picked up on when we laugh at funny things he does and giggles and does them again. He kicks his legs like crazy in the tub and splashes his brother. When we laugh he kicks harder and harder and splashes water OUT of the tub at me and his sisters. This makes him belly laugh and do it more!

This month, Miles is giving me the feeling that he may end up being the silliest rascal of the bunch. As much of a fun, playful little boy he’s becoming, he’s still my sweet snuggly boy at nap and bed time. In fact, sometimes the only way he will nap is if I snuggle with him in my bed. Which, as my 4th baby, I am totally ok with. I used to race around like mad when the others fell asleep for a nap, but this time around I don’t mind stopping for a little while and enjoying extra baby cuddles.

A few things we are loving this month for Miles:

Land of Nod Play Mat: Miles has been using this since he was just 2 months old, but now that he sits, it’s a great soft spot to sit and he loves pulling at the fish. I find when they sit, but can’t crawl, they get frustrated when a toy rolls away. With the mat, there is always something attached that’s in close enough reach.

Hugaboo: Even though Miles can sit, he’s only been able to do it for a few weeks and after a little while starts to fall. The Hugaboo lets him still sit up and work on those “sitting muscles” but has the support he needs when he starts to get tired. As you can see, it also doubles as a way for Tommy to play cars with Miles!

Rubber Spatula: I always forget, that no matter how many toys I have, that when they’re teething my kids all love the rubber spatula best. We’ve gotten through many restaurant meals thanks to the spatula.

Babybjorn High Chair: I had this high chair for Tommy too. After trying to many high chairs, this is my favorite for early sitters. It’s small and compact (folds flat) so it doesn’t take up much room in the kitchen. The shape and how snug they fit in it, makes it perfect for little ones that are just starting to sit and ready to try lots of foods! *Note in the post Miles is pictured in Tommy’s Stoke high chair which is larger. It was one of those days where his high chair was still dirty from breakfast and it was time for his lunch. So lazy mom just popped into the nearest clean chair!
