The Chirping Moms

One of every mom’s dreaded topics…

August 21, 2012

Can anyone guess what I’m talking about—-potty training, temper tantrums, bedtime battles, picky eating, lack of sleep?
No, it’s even a more dreaded topic for me:  CLEANING!!!!!!!
So this is a post that we would LOVE to have some reader’s input…PLEASE share all cleaning tips with us—seriously, Courtney and I could use every trick in the cleaning tip book.   I have tried SO many ways to keep our house tidy and organized and I just have realized that with little kids running around—it’s not going to happen completely.  Does anyone else have a house that looks like this at 5 PM?
I used to divide my cleaning up during the days so I wouldn’t have anything to do during the weekend:
Mondays-Floors
Tuesday-Bathrooms/Upstairs
Wednesday-Main Floor
Thursday-Kitchen
Friday-Basement
As much as I love the little extra freedom on the weekend, I felt like I always had some chore to do on top of the usual weekday chaos and the house was never completely clean.
So my new idea is to do just the minimal during the week and do a bigger house cleaning on the weekend, while Chris (my husband) takes the kids out for an hour to have some special daddy/son bonding time.  So far, this has worked out great!!!  I get a few moments to myself to crank up the music and clean like a mad woman.  And the boys in the family have spent some mornings at the park, visiting the choo-choo train, and even went to a Thomas movie last weekend which is perfect as my husband works some long M-F hours!  Now during the week, I only have to maintain the laundry and usually a quick vacumn once during the week!  And thankfully, I have two dogs—so they gobble up any food remnants right off the floor, so no daily mopping for this mama:)
One of the things that Courtney and I love is this Ultimate Cleaning Checklist.  For each day, it features some very simple chores that you do and then also a weekly cleaning checklist.
This was created by Sarah, the designer behind the Etsy shop, Printspiration.  There are SO many great organization ideas over on her Etsy shop and the code CHIRPINGMOMS will give you 20% off your order. Sarah also has recently created the blog, Living the Good Life…On a Budget with tips on how to save and spend well.  Right now, she is running a giveaway for a Monthly Budget Set, click here to find out more details.

Now this hasn’t even got me started on deep cleaning—seriously where do you all find the time?  The thought of organizing my attic, changing clothes over during seasons, and cleaning closets just SCARES me!

With a little less stress about cleaning during my week, I get to spend more time with these two wild, crazy boys:)

I basically maintain (laundry, dishes, tidying up) through the day and then once a week my husband and I will go through and do the deeper cleaning (bathrooms, floors, dusting, etc.). This works for us!!

Being a mama of 6, I am cleaning everyday! I maintain dishes, laundry, and I tidy up family room at the end of the day! I clean downstairs bathroom 3 times a week, and the upstairs bathrooms once a week. At the end of each day the entire house is picked up, so in the morning I dont have to tidy up all I have to do is unload the dishwasher and start breakfast!

I saw a post on MrstoMamma that broke down the cleaning schedule pretty good. I kinda like to keep things neat and tidy through the week then have a good scrub down on Friday night or Saturday morning. Laundry of course, goes ALL. WEEk. LONG!

how funny! i just posted this question on my Facebook page – but more about how i put those little kiddos to work. i take one step forward and three steps back all day. so, clearly it's a discipline or motivation issue or something. for me – i have no secrets to share. i'll be tuning in to what your readers say. i need all the help i can get.

I usually just clean first thing in the morning, put toys away after dinner and clean some more once the kids are in bed. And even that isn't enough! I like your idea better than what we do now! I think I will be stealing it!

I tried a schedule too but sometimes I don't feel like doing a certain chore on a certain day, or maybe the toddler makes one easier/more difficult than the other. Now I just try to keep a schedule of the big stuff in my head, but I like the idea of having the hubs take the kiddos out on the weekend for a bit of get-it-done cleaning!

I involve the kids. Of course, my kids are older, so they're easy to manipulate! For some people, 15 min three times every day works; for others, one whole day in the weekend. I think once your kids are a little older, it'll just be easier!!
