The Chirping Moms

Organization Week Continues…The Family Binder!

October 16, 2012

Sometimes I think about my life and I have to remind myself that I just hit 30, have two kids with another one on the way (as well as two dogs!), and am the mom of a very busy household.  When exactly did I go from living life with loads of free time and not many  worries as a young adult to a busy mama who can barely fit in a shower…
Do you know what comes with the job of “motherhood”?  Papers, lots of mail, never-ending to do lists, birthday cards to send, menus to plan, phone calls to remember, notes to and from school.   It’s seriously a never-ending stream of things coming in that can easily overwhelm any person!  And the amount of information that we moms are supposed to keep in our head is crazy:  What’s the doctor’s phone number?  Who was that electrician you used?  When did you last get the oil changed?  How much did you spend on coffee last month?  Etc, etc, etc…
I have seen the “Family Binder” idea on Pinterest for awhile now, but FINALLY am thankful enough to have spent some time this month to create my own Family Binder.
I started with a 1/2 inch binder—I won’t allow this thing to get any bigger or it may get out of control.  I printed this cute cover from another great blogger, Kristen at First Name Smith who happens to have a flash sale today at her store, Little Laws Print.  Click on her blog link to find out more info…
And inside I have all the information one would need about our little family.  Now, I have to give a BIG thank you to Etsy shop, Magic By Marcy.  She is the creator of all the adorable printables that now keep my life a little more organized.  I LOVE what was included in the Busy Mom Organizational Family Binder and Add-Ons listings: weekly meal planner, blog planning sheet, monthly budget sheet, school notes/communication tracker, a “getting organized” list by rooms in the house, babysitter notes, birthday reminder calendar, and MUCH more!
Magic By Marcy also makes Christmas cards, iron-on transfer designs, and so many cute birthday invitations.  Magic by Marcy also created our adorable “First Day of School” signs featured here!  Click the following links to find out more:

The family binder allows my husband and I to share all important details that we both really should know, but somehow don’t always communicate.  Some of the pages that I have included in the binder are:
  • Car maintenance page:  We track oil changes, tire rotations, wipers replaced, etc. so we always have a record of when things get done.
  • I love the monthly budget page which allows me to keep track of our money with paper and pen, which is so much more eye-opening than doing a quick glance over bank accounts on the Internet.
  • Important home information that has lists all phone numbers we may need:  plumber, electrician, insurance agent, neighbors, etc.
  • Babysitter Notes:  important phone numbers (including doctor’s) and a quick summary for each child (what to eat, bedtime routine, special instructions).  Easy to pull out when you are a rush to get out of the house!
So do want a sneak peek into my family binder?????
Just started to fill out my birthday reminder list—which reminds me that tomorrow is my brother in law’s birthday:)  I’m sure I will forget by tomorrow…
And I LOVE using the weekly planners to keep my schedule organized and remind of me of all the things that I still need to do…
So I hope this motivates you to get a little more organized this week—it really is such a wonderful tool for any family to have.
