The Chirping Moms

Give the Gift of Original Art

November 14, 2017

We’ve lived in our house for over 2 years now. The first 2 years were filled with unpacking, pregnancy and a 4th little baby. To say it was a wild and crazy 2 years would be an understatement. I decided this year I am going to finally spend some time decorating the house. The first 2 years were more about survival but now there’s a little time (very little!) to devote to the house. One thing that I have always wanted for our house is an original art piece. To be honest, I never really knew where to look for art. Then a few months ago, thanks to the wonderful world of Instagram, I found Kristen Tirney and her incredible original abstract canvas.

If you don’t already follow @kristentirneyart I would highly recommend this lovely Instagram feed. You’ll get a daily dose of something beautiful to look at and a feel for the art Kristen creates. Her work is stunning. If you see something you like, just send her a message. She’s so easy to work with. Kristen creates all different size canvases and right now is even hand painting Christmas ornaments. There are so many ways you could use this art for gifts this holiday season!

Kristen Tirney Art is currently sold in 4 stores on the East Coast: The Blue Octagon in Malvern, PA , Finishing Touches by Maureen in Spring Lake, NJ, Donna Donaldson Home and Interiors in Summit, NJ, and Quartet in Chatham, NJ. Her work will soon be found displayed and for sale in a well known Main Line restaurant in the upcoming weeks. She hasn’t told me which one but as a Villanova grad I can’t wait to see where she’s going to be next on the Main Line.  Follow Kristen on Instagram to find out where her work will be popping up!

The piece Kristen created for my living room (see below) was a combination of a few paintings on saw on her Instagram feed that I loved. The way she adds a hint of gold to her abstract canvas work really caught my eye. I sent her a picture of the space and she recommended the best size canvas. She sent me photos as she painted (even a video!) and made sure i was happy with the progress. It was a really neat process and I couldn’t wait to see how it turned out. Once I put it on the mantle I couldn’t believe how it changed the room. Her color recommendations were wonderful and the painting made me notice and appreciate the stained glass window in the room so much more.

We still have a ways to go with decorating the room but I finally have a piece of original artwork to start my year of decorating! Stay tuned for a complete photo of the room + the painting when it’s done.

Now a bit more about the artist! Meet Kristen Tirney:

Kristen Tirney’s love for art began at a young age and included many private art lessons and classes throughout her childhood. She immersed herself in every opportunity to become involved in art and learn through different mediums and techniques. Kristen holds an undergraduate degree from Loyola University in graphic design. She worked briefly at NBC where she assisted in graphics for The Today Show and Nightly News. Kristen loves the freedom and creation that goes with the process of painting an abstract piece. The ability to blend colors as the piece is created and to let the canvas develop on its own leads to some of her most beautiful paintings. Kristen also loves to find inspiration from things around her whether it be a throw pillow or a sunburst gold mirror her paintings often reflect her love for the many elements that go into home design and interior decorating.

Kristen creates many custom commissioned paintings for clients all over the country. She can color match fabrics and work with you to personalize the color and style to fit exactly what your needs and vision may be. Kristen’s work can also be found featured on the blog Citrine Living where two of her paintings were used in a master bath renovation.

If you are in the Philadelphia area, Kristen will be at the Holy Child Holiday Shops at the Philadelphia Country Club the evening of November 16th and all day Friday November 17th. Be sure to stop by, see her art and say hello!
