The Chirping Moms

Hop Into Coding (& So Much More) with Osmo This Spring

April 6, 2020

Towards the end of my pregnancy, a friend recommended Osmo. She said her boys, who are close in age to Tommy and Miles, really enjoy it. I hadn’t heard of it before and started to research it a bit and thought it would be a good thing to have with a new baby in the house, as something to let the boys do when the other was at preschool. Little did I know that the day I came home from the hospital would be all of my kids last day of school for a long time and Osmo would become a fun learning tool for all 4 of them.

What is Osmo?

Osmo is really like no other play system because it fuses digital play and physical play. For me, Osmo is a positive approach to screen time. The kids are getting to use the iPad but they’re playing hands on games. They also like to play with their siblings and not just solo. When I read that Osmo is used by teachers in over 30,000 schools in 42 countries around the world, it made me feel good about using it as a learning tool while the kids are out of school and doing distance learning. Osmo is compatible with iPad, iPhone, and Fire Tablet.

What Osmo games to my kids enjoy?

What I love about the Osmo games is they provide different levels of difficulty that grow with your child. We have games that all of my kids use: age 4 to 10. 2 of the games come with Osmo (the 1st 2) and the rest we got separately. A few of our favorites:

Masterpiece

Newton

Little Genius ABCs and Squiggle Magic

Super Studio Frozen 2

Coding Awbie

Coding Jam

Hop into Coding this Spring

Alex is super interested in coding. She certainly knows more about it than I do, so it’s not something I can teach her while she’s home. I was so happy to see that Osmo has two awesome coding games: Coding Awbie and Coding Jam. She loves both and has had fun also teaching her sister and brothers how to play too. Coding Jam combines 2 of her favorites: coding and music. It’s been really neat to see how excited she gets to combine the 2 and see the other kids follow suit as well.

Both Coding Awbie and Coding Jam teach coding in a really fun and approachable way using hands-on play. Through playing the games, kids can learn real coding fundamentals such as logical reasoning, creative thinking, and problem solving.

Current Osmo Deals
