Preparing For A Summer At The Pool

May 2, 2014

We spend a lot of time at the pool during the summer. Our town has a great pool, filled with all of our friends, so we really enjoy our days there. When I’m there, it’s me + 2 kids who love the water, are totally fearless and don’t know how to swim. That = me very nervous. In addition to spending time at our town pool, we spend time at my parents pool, in the ocean and in the bay. So, my kids will be in the water most of the summer! I was very excited when I found out Julie and I would be working with SwimWays this year, as ambassadors in their Swim Steps program. In addition to getting great safety tips to use at the pool myself, I’ll have some great tips, products, etc to share with all of you too.

If you’re looking for a product to help keep your little one safe in the water, SwimWays makes it easy to pick the right product with their Swim Steps.

To start out this summer, I have Alex as a Step 2 in a Swim Vest. I have Maggie as a Step 3 in a Power Swimr. At our town pool, no floatation devices are aloud, so we will practice in our Swim Steps gear elsewhere and hope to build our confidence and skills throughout the summer. My goals for the girls this summer is for Maggie to swim on her own and for Alex to be able to swim enough that if she fell in, she could paddle to the side (that’s what Maggie was doing the end of last summer).

Since I am trying to help my girls learn to swim, and also will have times when they can’t wear any “support” in the pool, I really like that SwimWays has so many resources for parents. There are excellent resources on water safety, tips on teaching kids to swim etc. You can find it all on their site.

Julie’s crew is prepared for swim season with their Swim Steps too. Julie has 1 child in each of the 3 steps this summer (yikes!). Here’s what we’ve selected for our 5 children:

We’re excited for warmer weather and for pool season to start. We’re both feeling more comfortable taking our gang to the pool now that we’ve found the right gear. We hope to share news that they progress to different Swim Steps throughout the summer or learn to swim on their own! Keep an eye out for more on Swim Steps, safety tips and giveaways.

We were not compensated for this post. As SwimWays ambassadors, we did receive product for the purpose of review. As always, all opinions are our own.
