Preparing for the Winter Hibernation

January 4, 2016

This is a sponsored post. As always, all opinions are our own.

The cold weather has arrived. The long winter months are here. It’s time to prepare for the winter hibernation. This year, more than any other, we truly feel like we are preparing to hibernate as we’ll have a newborn baby in the house. You tend to “hibernate” for at least a few weeks whenever a new baby arrives, even if it’s July. Whenever we bring home a new baby (this will be the 4th time), I always feel like the first few weeks fly by and all of a sudden I stop and think “when’s the last time I left the house?”

So being that this baby is due late January, which is always a time during which we settle in for a few weeks of winter “hibernation”, we really won’t be going anywhere for a while!

I’ve been preparing by prepping some meals for the freezer, trying new comfort food recipes and seeking as many easy dinner “hacks” as I can.

Here’s one super easy winter dinner idea:

Easy Chili Nachos

Ingredients: 1 can of Wolf Brand Chili, tortilla chips and cheese

Directions: with Wolf Brand Chili everything is in the can – there’s no need to add any ingredients to the chili. So, really all you need to do is put it over the chips, sprinkle cheese on top and microwave. Dinner is ready and you can cuddle up for your favorite show, relax and stay warm.

Hack: use Pam first to make clean up much easier (especially for a messy nacho night).

In addition to preparing some dishes for our “winter hibernation” we figure a long cold winter with a new baby will probably not mean a lot of weekend date nights walking to town. Instead we’ll cozy up on the couch by the fire and hunt for some new tv shows to binge watch. We always laugh and think about what show we “caught up on” when each of the babies was born. This time we have run out of options, so we’ve been polling friends for new shows and even thinking about re-watching seasons of shows we haven’t seen in close to 10 years. Any ideas of good winter shows to line up for our winter hibernation?

Now for one more winter hibernation recipe!

Crockpot Tomato and Pepper Chicken

Ingredients:

Hunt’s Fire Roasted Tomatoes, Hunt’s Tomato Sauce, RO*TEL with Chili Peppers, sliced  fresh peppers and uncooked chicken.

Directions: Place chicken and sliced peppers in the crockpot. Top with the cans of Hunt’s Fire Roasted Tomatoes, Hunt’s Tomato Sauce and RO*TEL. Cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 4-5 hours.

I used boneless chicken breasts, but you can really use any kind of chicken for this recipe. The best part of this recipe is that because of all of the flavors of the Hunt’s Fire Roasted Tomatoes and the RO*TEL with Chili Peppers, there’s no need to add any ingredients besides what’s in the cans. This recipe takes about 5 minutes to make and it’s delicious. It makes the for the perfect winter hibernation meal.

It’s time to cuddle up with your family and prepare for the winter months ahead!
