A Puppy Dog Themed Birthday Party

April 20, 2017

If you’ve followed along with the blog for a while, you know we are quite the animal lovers. My oldest, Maggie, has loved animals since she was a baby. It’s only fitting that we finally threw a puppy dog themed birthday party. She wants to be a vet when she grows up and (right now) dogs are her favorite animal. She was a K-9 unit police girl for Halloween and declared months before her birthday that she was “definitely having a dog party”. So right after the holidays, I got to planning her 7th birthday bash: a big “pawty” to celebrate our dog lover! Below are some highlights from the party, planning ideas and lots of party photos. It was a barking good time!

Puppy Dog Party INVITATIONS

We found the perfect dog party invitation from Minted!

DECOR

I found a “Dog Birthday Party Kit” on Etsy and it was just too cute! I love when I find a great Etsy shop like Chaotic & Collected for banners and party themes. The shop owner is super friendly and made our dog birthday theme come together! The party kit came with a great sized banner/garland, food flags and drink stirrers (we also used for food).

All of the tassels, candles,  piñata treat bags, etc in the photos are from Jamboree Party Box. I got a bunch of stuff from this party shop for my little one’s 1st birthday bash (that happened to be just a few weeks before this puppy party). We were able to repurpose a lot of it. It’s fabulous quality and great customer service. I’d highly recommend for party supplies!

I made the dog bone placemats out of brown cardstock. I am not great at cutting, so I printed a dog bone shape from Google image and used that as the pattern. Then I added the guests names and some cute stickers from Minted.

Last, I found a really sweet puppy print from Minted. We used it as decor and as a gift for my daughter, to hang in her room.

Puppy Adoption: This was the highlight of the party!

Maggie thought of the idea and I got all the supplies and created it for her. She was so, so happy when she came down and saw it. She wanted all of her friends to get to adopt a puppy to bring home. At first, she wanted to rescue a ton of real dogs and have her friends bring those home, but I convinced her stuffed dogs might be best.

I got a wood crate at Micheal’s and filled it with stuffed dogs and made a “Puppy Adoption” sign on Minted. I found dog collar bracelets that fit the pups and cute little boxes that looked like dog houses (all from Oriental Trading). Then I found little party hats at Target. We lined everything up and the girls picked out a carrier, a dog and a collar and hat for their new friend. Then, my favorite part, they picked a little tag that said “adopted” and wrote their new puppy’s name on the back. I made these cards on Minted and they matched the dog on the invites.

Make Your Own Dog Treats:

This was fun, really easy and something special for the girls to give a real dog they know! The girls made them all on their own. I got a fun paw print disposable tablecloth from Oriental Trading, so after the mess of making dog treats, I just scooped up the whole table cloth and tossed it. Here’s how to easily make your own dog treats:

Ingredients: 2 jars of baby food to every 2 cups of organic whole wheat flour. We used sweet potato baby food.

Directions: Mix the flour and baby food and shape the treats! We used silicone dog bone shaped trays from Amazon. Then bake for about 20-25 min at 350.

We served lemonade in these adorable puppy cups that I found on Etsy, from Divine Glitters (they even came with the straws!):

The puppy banner we found on Etsy (see decor section above) came with some cute cupcake toppers and also some dogs on large sticks that we put in cups of popcorn.

Puppy Dog Party Favors:

I got bags and puppy stickers from Minted. I like that you can personalize the Minted stickers to say “thank you”. Inside the bags, we put dog lollipops and stickers that I found on Oriental Trading and some other treats.

Last, but not least, we had a fun dog house photo op and dog noses. These were a lot of fun and made for some cute photos of the kids. Everyone loved the dog noses!

This was one of the most fun parties we have ever had! Maggie’s already planning what type of “animal party” she’ll have next year!
