Simple & Easy Snack Ideas for Kids

May 29, 2014

I have been in kind of a snack rut lately so I’m challenging myself to try new & fun things to broaden our “snack” horizons this summer but keep it simple and easy.  (Sorry but you won’t be seeing me doing any elaborate food art)  Today, I’m sharing some of our recent favorites.

Simple & Easy Snack Ideas for Kids || The Chirping Moms
1.  Kidfresh meal.  I told you that these ideas were EASY.  I actually got this idea from Courtney.  Pop a Kidfresh meal into the microwave.  Instead of serving it as a meal, split it between children for snack time.
2.  Red Jacket Orchard Juices.  My oldest son, Aiden, is all about getting “special” drinks.  When Grandma and Grandpa are around that may mean a taste of soda, but that doesn’t fly when it’s just me.  Red Jacket juices are great because they are 100% all-natural fruit juice but he thinks they are just as special when he drinks out of his own bottle.  You can also add these into an ice pop mold and make your own popsicles!
3.  Red Baron Deep Dish Mini Pizzas.  Again, Courtney is the mastermind behind this super easy snack.  These pizzas that come in cheese or pepperoni have eight per package so one box will work for several snack or meal times.  Throw them on the grill while the kids are playing in the pool and when they are tired and hungry from playing in the pool, call them over for a little pizza snack time outside!
4.  Jammy Sammy.  I have mentioned these before in my On the Go Snack Idea posts but I love them so much especially in the summertime when you hit the parks & pools and are traveling in the car or on an airplane.  Super easy to pack and take with you wherever you may go!
5.  Yogurt (topped with sprinkles or granola OR served with pretzels to dip in).  My kids have become big yogurt eaters lately.  Like at least once a day.  Our go-to yogurt right now for the kids is Danimals Superstars Greek Yogurt.  This yogurt features 10 grams of protein per 4-ounce cup with no artificial colors, flavors, or high fructose corn syrup.
6.  Frozen Berries:  We always have frozen berries on hand to either make some pick-me-up snack smoothies or honestly, my middle son loves to eat these by the handful.  I try to make sure they are slightly thawed just so they don’t choke on them, but seriously what a super easy & super healthy snack idea.
7. Trail Mix.  Now this is super easy & a super easy way to get rid of all those half-eaten foods in the cupboard.  Look in the cupboards and combine whatever you may like.  Nuts, cereal, pretzels, crackers, dried fruit, M & M’s, seriously whatever you may like.  One my kids’ favorite mix is our “smores” mix: Golden Graham cereal, marshmallows, & chocolate chips.
8.  Fruit & Cheese Skewers.  Anything looks better on a stick, right?
9.  No-Nut Butter.  This is another great idea from Courtney.  The No-Nut Butter does not have peanuts in it at all so it is safe to take to the park or to gatherings where there may be children with peanut allergies.
10.  Just make the snack look fun.  One easy idea is to place several foods in an ice cube tray or muffin tin.  The kids love it!
