The Chirping Moms

Spooky Sensory Bin

October 24, 2021

Ready for the spookiest sensory bin you ever did see? I love making these for my kids around the holidays. Dyed spaghetti is less messy than the black bean bin and easier to clean up. I have the directions on dying the spaghetti below. This spooky bin was enjoyed by my kindergartner and toddler and then I actually used it as “decor” fort my big kids Halloween party later in the day. Here’s how I made this spooky Halloween sensory bin:

Spooky Halloween Sensory Bin

Supplies:
uncooked spaghetti
purple food dye
vegetable or canola oil
Plastic eyeballs

Directions: First you have to dye your spooky spaghetti…

1. Get thick spaghetti (any spaghetti will work, but the thicker, the less it will stick together )
2. Cook the spaghetti 1 to 2 minutes LESS than al dente
3. Drain and run really cold water over it
4. Put it in a 1 gallon ziplock bag
5. Pour in some vegetable oil or canola oil, i’d say about 1/4 cup
6. Add in the food coloring and mix up the pasta, food coloring and vegetable in the ziplock bag. Add in more food coloring if the dolor isn’t dark enough
7. Let it sit for about 10-15 min and then drain it and run more cold water over it. The more you run water over it and rinse it, the less likely it is that their hands will get dye on them while playing

Next add your spooky purple spaghetti to your tray. I used a caldron tray from Target but any black bin or tray could be your “caldron”. Add in spooky halloween eyeballs. I used these from Amazon: Halloween Scary Eyes. Make sure for the eyeballs you pick something safe for whatever age will be using the bin. I like the large ones (also pictured) that I found years ago, because they are bigger for littler kids to use. Also supervise with the tray.

You can watch a “how to” video on my Reels or Tik Tok!
