The Chirping Moms

Strawberry Greek Yogurt Dip Recipe

January 29, 2015

Three young children.  That means I hear “Mom, I need a snack” many times throughout the day.  At least twice a day per kid, equaling at least six snacks a day.  At least forty two a week.  I am always on a search for new snack ideas & I am excited to share a new favorite snack idea with you all.  Today, I am excited to share a new super easy recipe, Strawberry Greek Yogurt Dip.  This delicious dip is perfect for fruit, pretzels, & a new addition to our pantry, Honey Maid Go Bites.

Graham crackers are a staple snack in our house, so we were excited to try out the new Honey Maid Go Bites from one of our favorite brands, Honey Maid.  The Honey Maid Go Bites are filled with chocolate & vanilla flavors in a crispy graham pocket.  Each serving has 7 grams of whole grains & 5 grams of protein, providing essential nutrients & a wholesome snack. Just like the Honey Maid graham crackers and Teddy Grahams, Honey Maid Go Bites are made with whole grains and real honey, without high fructose corn syrup or artificial colors.

I was inspired to make a new dip to try with the Honey Maid Go Bites.  My kids are big into dips & honestly, they will eat about anything with a dip.  This Strawberry Greek Yogurt dip is super easy to make (only three ingredients) & is amazing.  Yes, it’s not the healthiest dip but it’s delicious.  Like delicious enough that I would serve this at a party, just for my friends & no kids even.  And, I love that I can pair it with healthy snack options, such as fruit.  Below, I have included the ingredients & directions to make this recipe.

Ingredients:
1 container of light Cool Whip
2 containers of the single serving Strawberry Greek Yogurt, Fruit on the Bottom
1/2 box (around 4 ounces) of frozen sliced strawberries in syrup, thawed
Sprinkles (optional)
Directions:
1. Blend the frozen strawberries in a blender until pureed.
2.  Mix the Cool Whip, yogurt, strawberry puree together.
3.  Place in serving dish & add sprinkles (optional).
4.  Serve with Honey Maid Go Bites, fruit, or pretzels.
This little monkey couldn’t keep her hands out of the dip (or the Honey Maid Go Bites)…
The Honey Maid Go Bites & this dip was a huge success in this house, and we definitely will be having this snack again, and again, and again because it was just super yummy.

While this looks like a fun, tasty snack that kids would love, I must say I don't think this qualifies as "nutritious fuel" for little bodies. The amount of sugar (and other really bad-for-you stuff; i.e. hydrogenated vegetable oil and high fructose corn syrup) in Cool Whip Light alone, would make me wary of making this recipe.

I am a big proponent of treats and my kids are *not* deprived at all in that department, but I feel it's important, when classifying food, that we get it right so they don't grow up thinking something's "healthy" when, in fact, it's a treat.
