Sweet Little Fingerprint Snowmen: Craft + Book + Snack

February 18, 2016

Back with another snowy Craft + Book + Snack. More snowmen, but this time a sweet little snowman craft made from fingerprints. We read The Snowman – or rather looked at the pictures and talked about the story (it’s a wordless book). It’s a sweet, snowy picture book that I thought went well with a fingerprint craft (I think anything with kids handprints or fingerprints is sweet!). Making them into magnets lets them be easily displayed. I’ve used this Craft + Book + Snack in my daughter’s pre-k 4 class and all of the kids enjoyed it, including the powdery snowman snack!

Craft: Fingerprint Snowman Magnets

Supplies:

Mini canvas – there are usually packs at the craft store of tiny canvas squares that are about 2 in x 2 in

Magnet

Light blue paint

White paint

Tiny orange pom poms

Black Sharpie

Glue

Directions: First, glue the magnet (or just stick if it’s a sticker) to the back of the mini canvas. Next paint the mini canvas light blue. Once it’s dry have the child make the 3 snowballs of the snowman by dipping their finger in the white paint and making fingerprints. Next, glue on the orange mini pom pom for the nose. Last, when it’s very dry, use the Sharpie to draw the hat, arms, face and buttons.

Book: The Snowman

Snack: Powdered Donut Snowmen

These were a hit with my kids! Take white powdered donuts and make a snowman face. I used orange jelly beans for the carrot nose and used black frosting gel for the face. I also had some candy “eyes” left from Christmas cookie making and used those. You could also use chocolate chips for the face and a chopped real carrot for the nose.

Stay warm!
